The press release doesn't say much. It doesn't say what is covered and how much the program costs.

It also doesn't say if it's transferable, if there are any mileage restrictions (aside from the 60K mile mark), and if it will be renewable after 2 years.

And, it sounds like this program is only available on cars that have gone through the Dealer network and warranty repair. Aftermarket parts and cars repaired or serviced in independent shops are excluded if I read this right. So, there is an incentive for owners to stay with Dealer service and scheduled maintenance intervals as prerequest to be able to use the Power Warranty as an advantage for resale.

It's a good start to help used car sales and price stability but there's still a lot of questions out there.

Sounds like F are trying to entice purchases through the dealer more than anything here. As a seller you'll be faced with either accepting the dealer's low ball trade in number(so the dealer can in turn include a warranty) or if you consign you may be stuck with having to fork out for an inspection and the two year warranty as a condition of buyer purchase.

It wouldn't really make any sense for an owner to just go ahead and get this as a protection as the car would have to be inspected and anything fixed before they'd honor it. So any problems would be taken care of before a warranty is in place and the warranty probably wouldn't be needed later. It'd most likely be a waste of money.

Quo bono? F, selling warranties and possibly getting service work up front. F controlling the sale of cars. Buyer I guess, but the cost of warranty is reflected in the price. Losers? Sellers as their either forced to accept less for their car from the dealer or are forced to do some servicing up front. It will mean that dealer cars are pricier though if warranty is included. Nice idea but when you get right down to it it's just a money maker for F.
