I noticed in a previous post
    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25872&highlight=280%2F45VR415
that Robert put 280/45VR415s on the rear of his Boxer.
My new BBi has the 280/45VR415s on the rear as well but age, not wear, has caught up to the tires and they need to be replaced.
I'm trying to decide whether to go back to the original 240/55VR415s or stay with the 280/45VR415s.
Has anyone else run or have thoughts on the 280/45VR415 TRXs on a Boxer?

How does a 280 width TRX fit on the existing rim? is it not too wide?

    Steve,
It fits nicely on the rim.
The overall diameter is a bit smaller for the 280, not really noticeable
but it's noticeably wider, looks cool.
    .............................................. diameter.......section width
    240/55VR415 Michelin TRX Tire......679mm..........239mm
    280/45VR415 Michelin TRX Tire......667mm..........281mm

Therein lies my point Kevin, the section width of the tyre is 71 mm greater than the rim which i believe is 210mm in width, would suggest to me the tyre sidewall would not be vertical enough and the tyre would squirm on the rim, would love to see a pic of the rear wheel/tyre on your car

    Hi Robert,
What size rubber are you running on the front tires?

murph...your tires look correct for an injection car and should be the same on the front and rear.

    again, yours look correct.

Hi Murph, currently running 245/45 which came with the car...they are in fine condition but will change them to the proper size in the future. The 45's would make the car a little low at the front, but this doesn't seem to look out of place.

The wider rear tires look great. I must admit had never thought of the option of using wider tires on origional rims and have therefore been looking for replacement non metric rims.

The biggest problem with boxer seems to be front end push or lack of grip from the front in hard cornering. Any ideas as to what tire could be used on origional front rim in conjunction with 280 rear to alleviate this problem.

The BB512i has wider rear tires on the same rims as used on the front anyway. I love the looks of the TRX wheels/tires on my Boxer. Has anyone tried converting the OEM tires/wheels on other cars to TRXs?

It looks like you can still get the TRX tires they used on the early "metric" wheeled Testarossas.

    Testarossa................................ diameter.......section width
    240/45VR415 Michelin TRX Tire......640mm..........253mm
    280/45VR415 Michelin TRX Tire......667mm..........281mm

    Boxer...................................... diameter.......section width
    240/55VR415 Michelin TRX Tire......679mm..........239mm

I know on my car and Robert's the 280s will work on the rear but has anyone run the 240/45VR415s on the front of a Boxer?
    Coker sells a 240/45ZR415.
I wonder if there is any clearance problem lock to lock?

Robert, any problems with your 245/45s lock to lock?

As far as I know bbi tires are the same back to front bbs had different widths. Winshield sticker on my car shows same back and front too.

Would the 280s work on the front as well?

Hey Murph , Your car looked great last Saturday. I look at the tire hight to wheel arch space and ridding at stock hight i like the tallness of the stock tire rather than width. But i agree both tire options look great.

Stock seems more than 12 mm difference in height??

sean...you are correct. the tire size on a bbi is the same front and rear however the wheel width is different. the rear wheels...(not tires), are wider than the fronts.

that said, i can see why the 280's might look ok on the bbi. i would like to see more photos of a car w/ the bigger than stock tires on the rear.

i also agree w/ franks previous post: the wheels and trx tires do look so proper. there are few cars ever that are more impressive to see on the road than a boxer.

Hi Murph, I've had no problems whatsoever wit hthe 245/45's on the front of the car. However the rolling radius is slightly smaller than std. which the boxer could probably do without....the front overhang is a liability! The dynamics of most mid engined cars are such that they are designed to have wider tyres on the back...hence the reason for fitting wider rear wheel; although the tyres are the same size the effective width on the road will be greater with the wider wheel. Going to the 280 is hardly a masssive change, but visually adds a certain something...and returns the rolling radius to what it should be. To me the 280 could have been designed for that wheel and car.
    Just my opinion.
Always wondered though why Ferrari left such a gap between the tyre tops and the wheel arches....it would look so much better if they body was a little lower. Not an easy thing to fix though without loosing even more ground clearance.

Had a look at my wheels, youre right the bbi front wheels have less width than the back. I assume this would necessitate changing wheels to put 280's on the front, so no saving there and youre still metric. For me the biggest problem as previously stated is front end push, and frankly 55 aspect ratio front tires make the tires feel as if they are peeling off the car. Any ideas as to what can be done with the stock front rim tire combo.

Interestingly before storage pumped tires up to 50psi, definatly an improvemnt in steering feel, but then I didnt hit any bumps are exceed 50, but car felt more like giant go cart on a tight road.

Pinin512 anything doing on those 17 inch wheels.

Lastly anyone know what a stock boxer rim weighs.
