I searched with no answers out there. Can anyone let me know the part number or where I can find ARP head studs for the 246? I know they are made by ARP but I am not sure if it is a specific part number for the 246 or one of their standard studs that fit the application.

Why do you want to replace them?
Superformance has something suitable, if you have to...

Send them a sample. They have made many Ferrari studs for me and many others but to my knowledge none are a catalog item.

    Because Ferrari studs are crap.

Might as well go to ARP and get good ones like all the others who want to build good motors.

I am actually changing the studs because the Dino units are rather thin and I prefer to treat them as a one use fastener. I did not see head studs on the receipt for the recent engine re-build so I am not taking any chances and changing them out. I'm not taking any chances on the engine and want to make sure that it is 100% so ARP it is.

It has been 2 decades since I spent alot of time doing street Dino motors...in my recollection, these are really not very good studs...prone to erratic stretching, along with cut-as oppoissed to rolled- threads...

I have used many ARP studs in may street and comp engines, they are made to order..
There is, in my recent experience, no "stock number" item for vintage Ferrari block studs.. of any ilk...

I would be more than happy to investigate group pricing and a production run. Only the best quality from ARP. Anyone interested please make yourselves known.

How do you remove the old studs? Any change of them breaking in the root?

    Greetings Gents,
In John Corbani's Dino Saga 051218, you'll see some pretty convincing pictures (I've attached 'em here)...and perhaps find the ARP part number (4206573)!
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86723
And, to address your last question, Alberto, I'll see if I can find the reference...I think it was in the 3x8 section...to that potential pitfall: A stud sheared off flush with the block when attempting to remove it!! Yikes.!

At any rate, changing them sounds like the prudent thing to do.
    Cheers,
    Coop

    Alberto,
In this forum, I found one thread by utah4re regarding a "long stud," where John C. replied that one of the studs in his engine had sheared off just below the block deck(!), and mentioned how it was removed.
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=209096&highlight=head+stud

Wait for some advice from those who have successfully removed those studs and/or remnants of same. It'll save you some grief and sleepless nights, for sure!

    Here we go,
A post by Nick Scianna--of Nicks Forza Ferrari fame. (NOTE: This was in regards to a 308 engine, so the stud dimensions are not the same, but the procedure is likely the same.)
    Good Luck,
    Coop

My reading of the situation is that the block is the weak link here and making the studs stronger might be futile.
I originally ordered dinoparts studs, the thread on the block end extends about 4 threads out of the surface of the block when fully engaged in the block - so they are loose. I didn't like this so ordered superformance parts - they are identical to the original - they seem to have performed ok.
For reasons outside my control I am now rebuilding this engine after only 250 miles. Other findings of interest are; you need to seal the studs in the block or coolant leaks up them and upon dismatling I rechecked the torque settings - several of the carb side studs where not fully tight where I had left them -I will be retorquing the head nuts after the run in period this time!

    Hi,
Digging up this old thread as I'd like to know if anyone ended up using ARP head studs or went with Superformance?
    Thanks, Andrew

edit: Not sure where Superformance gets their studs from, they might be ARP for all I know...
