Is there any secret to removing the door pins?
Only secret I know of is to be sure to have a replacement set nearby. When we pulled them off my car, we soaked them with everything we had, and we still buggered two of them up too badly to re-use. Rost-off was the best penetrant we had, from Wurth. IT seemed to make the most progress, but they were still a bugger. Got replacements from either Dennis McCann or T Rutlands, can't remember which. We actually ended up buying from both of them and one set was ****. DM
I had to cut mine off with a impact chisel. This was in preparation for a full restoration. It can be a real pain to get these out, and I strongly recommend that everyone soak theirs frequently with penetrant, in anticipation of removing them. I found it less costly, and ultimately better, to have a machine shop make me a new set. I had a spiral groove machined into my new pins to allow oil to penetrate the hing in the future. Grease them well and frequently. Jim S.
