Hi guys, I bought the service manuals from Gt cars but I have been warned that the torque values for the heads, manifolds, cam bearing caps and cam sprockets are wrong. Can anyone enlighten me before I make a mistake? Thanks Jim Locke

Jim - you have been advised correctly. Do not rely upon the torque specs that are published in Angelo Wallace's translation. Some are correct, but many are not.

I printted from the web several torque specfication tables for U.S. and metric threads. They are in spreadsheet format, allowing you to find the proper milimeter shaft diameter and thread dimension. In addition, the table lists torques for different bolt standards (10.9, 12.0, 8.9, etc.)

I encourage you to find one on the web, download it, print it, and laminate it, and use it as you resource for all torque decisions. If the shop manual is consistent with a mechanical engineering torque table, then you know that things make sense. When they define different torque specs for the same bolt, stop and think before torqueing.

But don't blame Wallace. Numbers are wrong in the original Italian, straight from the factory. Actually the only one I found to be way out was that for 6 mm studs for cam bearing caps, etc. Book says 3.3 but 1.3 is closer to reality. Internet has lots of places to find torque for all kinds of fasteners. Download a sheet and add to your library. Google until you find one you like.

I think there was a service bulletin update on this stuff. I have it somewhere, I'll dig it out and work up a post.
