There looks to be an interesting car in Rosso Dino if anyone in the US is looking for a GT. It has apparently had the same owner for the last 35 years.

Seems pretty `rough' for that asking price, or am I just behind on 246GT market values?

It's listed as Dino red, hence Rosso Dino, but I agree the pictures aren't great. It could be Rosso Chiaro.

Rosso Chiaro makes sence to this car....
the interesting is, original interior NERO VM8500, but seats seems to be changed...
taken off the leather seats and putting in the vinyl seats at one point in time...

Rosso Chiaro I think. Perhaps Rosso Dino with plenty of Gullwing's patented patina.

The guy at Gullwing is truly a pig..

you think they might wash the car.
He is the equiv of the newspaper subway stands in NYC.
its just another newspaper or candy roll to him..

I get hives thinking about that dealer.

Ask him what a throw out bearing is...he'll tell you where to look.

What would it cost to do a "make it look pretty so it sells well at auction" restoration on this car?

New interior carpets and possibly seats, detail engine and front compartment, new trunk carpet.

Wouldn't be a huge expense if you did most of it yourself.

I don't follow GT prices in the US so can't comment on the value aspect. Cars in worse condition have certainly sold for more here lately. What is interesting about this car is that it looks fairly complete and original, a benefit of the previous owner having it for 35 years no doubt. The carpets are the originals (apart from passenger overmat on top of original mat) and they'd likely clean up pretty well. Same applies to the trunk carpet. The wheels look like they are the original finish as well.

The expansion tank is wrong but that's an easy fix. The jack is there (albeit missing the cap and plastic winding handle) in the correct bag along with the correct tool pouch. Depending upon the condition of the paint, bodywork and mechanicals I thought someone who values originality could potentially make a very nice car with it.

How does this differ from the "barn find" Dino that had crazed paint and probably needed a complete restoration but sold for the mid-200's IIRC at Mecum a couple of years ago?

Assuming the car has been maintained mechancally with adequately frequent oil, brake fluid and coolant changes the price does not seem totally off the wall to me, assuming it sells for a bit less than that.

Honestly, i don't see why the reaction to this asking price. I am very surprised the asking price wasn't more, regardless of actual selling price.

AND given people are questioning the price, the fact that it sold so quick gives clues to the real value of the car.

I am most surprised by the fact that they didn't even have to spend time making it look nice. Imagine what that would have done for the car . I still don't understand why this dealer doesn't do this as a matter of routine.

By the time I saw this, it was listed as sold, and no asking price was listed, nor has anyone in the thread posted what the asking price was. Could someone please post what the asking price was?

    Thanks

I agree. It doesn't cost THAT much to do a cosmetic resto to "sell it at auction where the buyer can't get a PPI" level, does it?

Is ANY running, drivable, complete, only usual mild rust issues 246GT worth much less than $200K these days?

I've seen that horror of a place first hand. Cars piled practically on top of one another. Most of the cars are highly misrepresented, and that's putting it kindly. Why Wayne Carini went there and said anything positive on an international televised program is beyond my understanding.
