Ferrari needs to really step up to the plate by supporting their older series production icon models by beginning with the Daytona and Dino. Mercedes does a fantastic job with original specification parts, manuals etc along with the well run Classic Center. They support the customer from the do-it-yourselfer to the open checkbook enthusiast. Porsche is getting better but has much to learn from Mercedes and vintage Porsche parts vendors such as NLA and tha various amazing Porsche specific restorers. Ferrari needs people like Matthias and Tom Shaughnessy. Could be a great profit center for them as well as creating the right image for them. Parts need to be correct! I wish there was a "one-stop" well done parts catalog from Ferrari. I don't know how many Dino's or Daytonas are still around. For Ferrari it's an important part of ther history that they need to support and preserve.

Very well said, i was at a car show on sunday and took my dino along. Many of the younger generation had never seen one and loved the car, even asking thier parent to take a photo of them standing next to it. These are the future generation that will buy "a classic"

Freeman's right. But I'm a cynic - I don't think Ferrari really cares. The problem with getting Ferrari involved is that things like an alternator bracket that maybe should cost $200 to $300 dollars or so will cost $1000 from Ferrari. And, Ferrari will likely not have a clue as to how to have the correct parts manufactured now.

With respect to the Maranello Classic Parts 246 GT Wallet pack - I don't understand what they are doing (other than the obvious - just trying to make some money).

An "Emergency Torch," a "Quality Window Duster," and a "Business Card Holder"????????

Why not a Flower Vase and a Cookie Jar?

A Pez dispenser with Dino from the Flintstones would be quaint ;)...that way, it really is complete.

Just don't forget the matching Pez Dispenser, the Flower Vase, and the Cookie Jar - all in Dino Viola Metallizzato - otherwise, points will be deducted!

In the Porsche world it all started with Chuck Stoddard, a passionate, knowledgeable Porsche dealer in Ohio. When he was at Porsche AG in the early 70's he saw their stockpile of 356 parts that were planned to be discarded. They told him they had no use for these obsolete parts! Chuck talked them in to giving the whole stockpile to him. Porsche couldn't understand those crazy Americans! As the stockpile was quickly sold off through his now famous catalog and dealership, he approached the original parts vendors and re-started production of the old NLA parts and made a hugely successful business out of it. He never looked back. He didn't do it for the money, he did it out of passion and vision. Today Stoddard Parts and Brad Ripley of NLA are combined. Porsche has woken up and is now making new old parts and are getting better and are finding it profitable. Most importantly, customers are enthusiastic, aligned and have choices from original NOS to accurate reproduction(and not so accurate). When I go to the various Dino parts websites: Superformance, Re-Originals, Dinoparts and especially Maranello Concessionaires etc I see a mixed bag. You have to shop them all and in many cases don't find what you need or their websites don't show detailed images or photos. Like buying "mystery parts"! Maranello Concessionaires probably has the best opportunity since they're an official arm of the factory. All they need is someone at the top of their organization that has passion and knowledge along with support of the factory. Just start with the Dino and Daytona and grow slowly from there. There is so much knowledge from the contributors of this forum that are also doing short parts runs that could help and I'm sure they would be grateful to help. Porsche is putting in a huge "Experience Center" in the middle of Southern California (at the 405 and 110 Frwy). They will have a test track so customers can experience the new Porsches in a safe environment and will occassionally open it up to the older Porsches. They will also open up a factory restoration facility similar to the Mercedes Classic Center in Irvine. They want to be conveniently located next to their biggest market and customers and some of the best Porsche restoration shops. This will help them sell new Porsches and grow their market. I'm sure they will open more "Experience Centers" around the world once this one gets up and running.

maybe it's a scarcity of parts that make these cars what they are. if all the parts are readily available then they are commonplace. don't get me wrong i still want to be able to fix my dino , but this makes one appreciate the car more .

I think if correct authentic parts were available we would use our Dino's more, make them even more appealing, they would be restored correctly and with just over 4000 cars produced total they would become more valuable. I don't think that great parts availability has jeopardized the value of a 300 SL Gullwing.

Not just Dino's, I have a 87 Testarossa, try finding parts for that.

I think Ferrari has done an absolute sad job of providing support for the "older" cars. Sure the Classiche progarm has helped, but at what charge?

I became a NEW Ferrari production BUYER AFTER owning a used car. Making it near impossible for USED car owners to buy parts at a reasonable rate discourages these types of people (myself included) from stepping up to new car. It also DRIVES down values of used cars TREMENDOUSLY.

I have never figured out why Ferrari hasn't followed Mercedes model for stuff like this. Older cars owners buy FAR more parts than anyone else. Make them in the first place and make them affordable.

I am VERY RELUCTANT to buy a new car again because of Ferrari's attitude towrd this stuff. I would rather live in the vintage car world, which makes Ferrari almost NO MONEY.
