Anyone got any idea of the oil consumption of their Dino? I'm trying to keep track of mine and would appreaciate any data any one has on this subject.

    Thanks,

    Philip

ps, I am tracking mine over a 1000 miles time span.

When mine is tight, a quart every 500-600 miles. After 150,000 miles it started to go up. Rebuilt at 181,000 miles burning a quart every 200 miles. Most driving was/is around town.

Burns less oil at highway speed. 1000 miles/quart is reasonable. Burns a lot less gas at speed too. Mileage is 10-12 mpg around town, 22 mpg at 80 mph.

Engine rebuilt about 5K miles ago.

I put in about a quart this summer over 2000 miles of driving.

My old 246 with 35,000 miles ran good but used oil to the point of sooting up the exhaust and causing a oil haze on the rear of the car. After the overhaul which included a three piece ring instead of the one piece stock item I have eliminated the oil haze and the exhausts have cleaned up from the sooty problem prior. My engine guy claims that oil cannot be controlled with the one piece ring. Enough said as I have first hand experiance and no more oil consumption. The oil I am using is 5-40 Amsoil. I hope this information is pertinent to this thread.

Guys, you've all be really helpful so far. It looks like mine is approx a quart per 1000 miles of mostly town driving, but starting to see an oil hazy up the back of the car...hmmmm suggestions?

What is your proceedure for checking your oil? Everyone seems to be different. My Porsche manual says to keep the engine running on my 911, previously I've always measured oil with the engine off after letting it run for a minute or two.

Don't know, I'd guess it's about a quart. I just keep mine topped up and added about 1/2 qt when it was at the mid mark.

The manual, as I reacall, is a little hazy on all of this.

It does say to check the oil every 200 miles, I think, before running the motor. I check mine warmed up, after driving, engine off. Makes the dip stick a little exciting to yank out, but, that's what shop rags are for.
