Hi Guys: I am in the middle of the restoration of my Dino and have come to the alternator...the alternator that was in my car before the resto started was a 308 alternator and now I have a correct (hopefully) replacement alternator that I bought on Ebay some years ago. The condition of this alternator is unknown and I am wondering if anyone knows of a reputable alternator restorer here in the USA. This alternator I have bought is FIAT part number 4166213 and it looks just like the parts book picture of the alternator that should be in my car which is FIAT part number 4207930. My car is a 1970 246GT Euro model, early "M" series, left hand drive. Any advisement of rebuilders would be appreciated and if anyone knows if all the replacement parts (like diodes) are available I am also capable of disassembling, cleaning, soldering, electrical VOM testing, and assembling an alternator.
A quick search shows a new 4166213 with 65 Ampere is less than $200 Why rebuild the old one when bearings and brushes cost almost that? Does the 308 Alternatore have the voltage regulator on the rear and is your wiring modified to supply ? or is your voltage regulator black box FIAT in front still controlled?
Hi Sergio: Who sells a new p/n 4166213 alternator for $200? I have the voltage regulator on the fuse panel and the wiring of the car appears to be original and not modified. I am guessing the alternator in the car is a 308 alternator simply because it looks like a 308 alternator from the outside...I do not know if it is modified in any way.
While you are changing the alternator to stock, consider getting your regulator upgraded to solid state internals. Doesn’t change the looks or the wiring but is more robust.
