Just curious to see how many are on the bored. My goal right now is to have a 360 bought before my 25th. I have always loved these cars and am extremely excited to be able to be actually in the market for one now.

Interesting you would bring this up....

most people I know under 25 are usually complaining of being 'bored'.

That's a fairly impressive accomplishment but I do hope you have your priorities in order. Realistically I could go out and buy a 308-355 if I wanted to but it would certainly not be a logical decision.

I'm 23 but am holding onto funds for property and other items I deem more important then a car.

    I'm 27 now. I've currently got 2 924s, an '82 911SC and a very original '70 914. I am in the middle of trying to trade my 914 and 911 for a 308. If that says anything :p

My 911 has been my daily now for the last 2 years, and it's been a fun car. But it just doesn't speak to me like a Ferrari does. The sound is great, the handling is great, and to a degree.... the 911 has been quite practical. For the last 4-5 years I've owned pretty much nothing but Porsche cars. But when I see 80s 911s floating around and then I look at pretty much ANY Ferrari, it seems like hands down... my inner child is screaming at me, "GET IT GET IT! I WANT IT! I WANT IT!"

The sound of an aircooled 911 is fantastic. You would likely enjoy the steering, the handling behavior, the sound, and the interior is really quite comfortable. The thing about the 911 I enjoy is that I get in and everything is just naturally where I would like it. The shifter just feels right, the seat is comfy, the pedals are great, the steering wheel position is great and the feedback you get through the manual rack on a 911 is great. I feel like I could run over a penny on the road and know it. Even in the snow, the car has been a BLAST to drive.

But the sheer beauty of a Ferrari. The lines, the body, the SOUND. There is something about old Ferraris and old Lamborghinis I simply cannot shake. I have loved exotic cars as an enthusiast since I was just a little kid. I feel the same way about motorcycles. I could easily go snag a Japanese bike, like a GSXR1000 and have "a really fast bike" but instead I have a Ducati 900SS. There is something about the way the italians do cars and motorcycles that is unique. To me there was nothing like the look of a Ducati, the styling, the way it was put together, the frame, the sound and the way it felt. I don't have the top end or top speed of bikes at the time, but I don't care. It's unique, it's a special bike, it's beautiful, it feels great, it's something you have to experience and appreciate the way it was done. As soon as I heard one when I got to ride with a friend who owned one for the first time I knew... "I have to have one of those."

I sort of feel this way about my Porsches and look at Ferrari in a similar way. I enjoy the engineering of my German cars. I enjoy the way it handles and looks and feels and how practical it is to a degree. But I look at the way the italians did Lamborghini and Ferrari and it strikes me in the same manner... the look, the style and body, the way it is put together, something special, beautiful, an experience.

I hope this doesn't sound sappy, but I love cars a lot, so cars are more than just getting from A to B for me.

Either way, I would say pursue what makes you happy and pursue what drives your dreams. Life is too short not to go for what you enjoy, what makes you happy and what you feel passionate about. Don't be afraid to try multiple flavors too if you think you'd like to try different cars. I've enjoyed Porsche cars for the last 4-5 years, I still will hold onto my track car and my wife's car. But I am ready to start on another adventure and try Ferrari.

I was 27 when I bought my 1995 F355 Berlinetta, but 25 when I got a 1999 C2 911 if that counts. Common sense and the financial climate at the time said "No" but I couldn't help myself. I had to do a lot of hard work to keep and maintain my car, but it's all work that taught me tons of great life lessons.

Buy it, break it, fix it, etc.

Also, maybe wait until you're actually 25, insurance rates will drop dramatically. Extra time searching for just the right car will be time well spent.

If at 25 you own a Ferrari yet do NOT have any real estate investments ( home) then IMO, your priorities are reversed....Mark

    Corse,
Ive driven quite a few mid 80's 911's and had the chance to buy a very clean low mileage '88 when I was 18...I passed on it and kick myself in the ass all the time.
I love the way they drive.

Also, it seems like the mid-80's air cooled 911 values are climbing pretty fast.

I've never driven a 3X8...before winter im going to Forza in CT to check out some cars though.

Perhaps, but for a single guy I'd much rather live a life I enjoy then doing what the norm states would be a good idea. I currently live on an older 41foot sea ray that is my home and drive a honda civic. I also invest and acquire land through tax deeds. I work for the government and have a very average paying job. I have zero debt and don't use credit cards. I believe I have my priorities much more in check then what 90% of people my age have.
Life is way to short I have come to realize to follow the norm, I'm going to live it up until forced to do so otherwise. Such as providing for a family.

As for the drop in insurance, thats partly why I'm going to wait until my 25th birthday!

I love Porches, but the styling is not exactly to my taste. I guess I'm also the new generation of Ferrari guru and think the 360's and up are the best looking cars they have ever made.

that might have been true 10 -15 years ago, but today I would shy away from RE at 25 assuming you are much more mobile than when you are 35.

in 1994 when i bought my 308, RE was still appreciating -everywhere... today that is not so. I think you can liquidate te 308 ( at a small loss) than move a house. The opportunities to leverage RE is much muhc less. besides at 25 a Ferrari is much more fun!

JUST MAKE SURE YOU BUY A SOLID CAR... Compression test mandatory & good PPI.

hello Tom; As with Real Estate, it is still location, location, location...& certain areas are appreciating quite nicely. My approach has always been, invest "wisely" in real estate & possibly in a few years the real estate appreciation will BUY your Ferrari, buying a Ferrari "first", the owner will now have a "Depreciating item" which will place the owner FURTHER AWAY financially from real estate ownership...."I" view a home as a necessity, a Ferrari as a "luxury"......Mark

I get it... RE in San Fran may be doing well, but here in ATL.. not so much. I get the RE point and if you are going to stay in once place ... makes all the sense in the world. but buying a Ferrari is not as fast deprecating as an new honda... and especially 308 since they have been at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve... my bet in todays avg. market - you could come out even +/- $5-6K in the 308... not sure you can do that in RE... in 5 - 6 years of ownership.

Assuming you have the cash / financing to get a home in the first place. If you are struggling ... dont recommend a Ferrari- it will suck the $$ out of you... but if its a goal... go! you only live once.

    I was 26 when I bought my current 911.

For the price I paid I could have gotten a nice 360... but I drive 30min+ each way on my daily commute and needed something reliable.

If all goes to plan in the next couple years... I'd like to trade the 911 for a F430 Spider AND a Jeep Wrangler to have as a knock-around car.
