Here are some shots of 0929, 1307, and 3867 (with modified VW K-G rear bumper), when I owned them. I agree that they are pretty cars, but in the day not so highly prized as today as the build quality on Scaglietti cars was not as good as PF, and the seating position on these cars was not comfortable; the seats were too low and the steering wheel too far away. The result, especially on the early cars, was arms outstretched and knees up around the wheel. Ah, what we sacrifice for beauty!

For some time I have been trying to figure out where my SWB CAlifornia ended up. Unfortunately I owned it in the days when SN's of Ferraris were not imprtant to me, and I only owned the car for a year or so. Obviously at time though The car was georgeous, it commanded far less attention than today. I purchased it in Ft. Lauderdale circa 1976 from "Steering Wheel", a dealer in used sport cars. The car was BRGreen with black leather. I believe it had been purchased new from Chinetti in Greenwich, and the car still had a CT registration and plates. Curiously the rear Borranis were larger than the fronts. I had it repainted Corso Rosso, and sold it in Miami to a fellow who I remember had a yellow NART spyder alloy bodied. Any help on this would be appreciated and bring back fond memories.

Your SWB California is/was s/n 3195GT. This car is still painted red and is currently in California.

The Daytona Spyder in the 3rd photograph is s/n 16223. Did you purchase that car new in 1973 or a few years later?

Unfortunately, I do not recall his name.. though that has a ring to it.
I met the fellow at an informal Ferrari car show I sponsored at a place called The Palm Bay Club, in Miami if that helps. He brought the NART there.

I purchased the Daytona in 1975 from Joe Marchetti in Chicago.. It had very low miles. The car had dyed white leather in Bright Blue at the time.. The car went to Pittsburg PA in 1977 or so. Are you sure of the 16223??

Are you saying the exterior was bright blue? 16223 was new in Rosso Chiaro with white interior and was with an "RAK" from Coconut Grove, Florida in 1975 according to FAF records.

On August 20, 2006 this car was sold for $748,000 at the Gooding & Company Auction, Monterey, California. Not sure who purchased it as it has not been shown in public since.

Thank you so much for the info.. A far cry from the $30,000.00 I gave to Marchetti..

Shoot me an email and I'll tell you a private tale about 16223.

I used s.n. 2015 as my summer driver in 1969. It's one of the alloy comp cars (it had six carburetors at that time), and latter was in the hands of long-term owner Paul Pappalardo, who restored it using it's original ivory color. It raced at LeMans in 1960 and Sebring in 1961. Just prior to that summer it was owned by Rod Kennedy of the Texas Speed Museum.

    All-

There are a couple of things I KNOW about these pictures. The Driver is Alan Wyllie. The passenger is his mechanic, my Dad, Dick Ostman. The pictures were taken at Lime Rock in '61 or '62.

I've been told this is 1085GT, all alloy body, Monza filler and if you look closely, it has Lakes Pipes (I think my Dad put those on for Wyllie).

Can anyone confirm that this is 1085GT? If not, which California is it? Anyone sure of the the time frame? Last, does anyone have other period pictures of this car?

    Thanks,
    Rick Ostman

    Great fotos....thanks for posting.
Note the exhaust under the door + original exhaust at the rear...

barchetta dot cc confirms sn 1085 GT with the registration plate PC 5234.
But there's no race listed with No 67, Just wait for the experts to chime in.

    Best Till...

Perhaps the term is unfamiliar, but "Lakes Pipes" are what the exhaust under the doors are called. They would normally be attached to the standard exhaust system (of any sort of car) up stream of the mufflers. They were fitted with end caps in place for road driving. For competition work the caps would be removed from the Lakes Pipes, thus giving the car a free flow exhaust.

Great pictures thanks! Having the iconic original 250 Cal spider next a modern california makes you realize how ugly the new cars really are and how timeless and beautiful the original one is. I find modern Ferrari's vulgar, distasteful and even quite ugly. Thank god for a healthy classic car market.
