Earlier this year I had Alsa Automotive do a bare metal respray on my 308 GTB. A very good friend was very impressed by the result and so last week we brought his 250 GTE to Alsa for a similar job.

For those that are interested I will post pictures of the whole process here in this thread. When all was done I had received more than 350 pictures from Alun Wilsher at Alsa so this will certainly turn out to be quite a long and hopefully interesting thread! :)

Yesterday I received the first e-mail with pictures from Al:

As you can see I have begun stripping the trims, glass etc from the back end.
No problems to report, other than I will need to get a couple of rear quarter glass lower seals.
I have found the break in the rear 'Ferrari' script, so will order one this week.
I hope this is all ok?
I will also get the rear windscreen trim down to the chrome plater's next Monday.

    Best regards, Peter

p.s. we drove the GTE all the way from Eindhoven, The Netherlands, to Alsa in Hirwaun, Wales. Some 750 kilometers without missing a beat! I drove the GTE from Dover to Wales and she's a delight.

Looking forward to seeing the project. It looks like you will be doing this with the mechanicals and interior in place. I am considering doing a repaint on my car and would like to see how the mechanicals and interior are protected from all the dust, water, and overspray. Thanks for posting.

    Thanks for sharing!

In the pictures, the paint looks pretty good. Are there issues not visible in the pictures or is this just a color change?

    Regards,

    Art S.

    Hi,

The paint is indeed good, but there are some small issues here and there that might turn into bigger issues in a few years time if not attended to. My friend decided to go the safe way hence the bare metal respray.
It's Verde Pino Metallizzato and will stay that way. It's a beautiful colour!

    Hi Peter,

I will enjoy watching your restoration..

    Could I ask a favor?

Could you measure the windshield for me?

I would like a measurment of the glass from edge to edge in the center. (top to bottom). I want to know how tall your glass is in the center.

Also could I get measurments of the windshield opening on the body?

I hate to trouble you with this request, But if you don't mind it would really help me out.

    Thanks for your time,

    Hi Peter,

Great idea to document the repaint in the vintage section.

I hope it'll have the same type of coverage your 308 project enjoyed, it'll be interesting to follow progress and methods.

    Keep up the good work!

    Hi Peter,

I just noticed that your mechanic is searching for a set of rear quarter-window rubber seals, and wanted to let you know that we have the item in stock, at USD 100.80/set plus shipping to Netherlands. Since the Dollar is rather weak, perhaps importing it from the U.S. makes financial sense.

Thanks and let us know if we can be of help.

    Best,

    Patrick

The GTE actually looks good in green. Will the repaint be in the same color? Great photos.

Yes, this is very important to my friend. He very much likes the colour as it is now. He will keep it that way.

No problem and glad you like it.

The stripping continues. So far a few small rust spots but nothing major.

Again very cool! A shame we didn't meet at Houten. I was parked right next to you and I wanted to congratulate you for the paint job on your 308!
