Please, can you help to identify this car and his story ? For the current owner (from 1 year), sure it's 3823GT. As you can see, all the number which I photographed are everywhere 3823. But on the second plate, it's 2823GT...The owner had never seen before this difference.
    Thanks !

Very easy. The "second" plate is NOT an original Ferrari badge/plate. This is the one attached to the car by Franco-Britannic Autos Ltd in France, the then importer (before Charles Pozzi SA). NOT FERRARI. In France and also Germany it is/was the law that the importer attached its own (additional) badge to the firewall. It seems clear that whoever at FBA did this made a simple mistake by stamping the wrong number on the badge.

Thanks for this clear answer. The owner was very surprised and anxious when I showed him this difference, because 2823 is another 250GTE ! He had not seen this mistake before I meet him last Sunday.

When I bought my '66 Corvette in 1988, the serial number tag did NOT match the title. The title was a typographical error. The owner had never noticed the error even after owning and driving the car for 18 years!!!

Strange . I would have thought this car would have the later taillights and driving lights in the bodywork - I'll check my GTE Registry.

All the GTE didn't receive the fog lights in series 1.

As I write it in the French section, it is probably about a GTE “interim”.

Series II without foglights and you're correct some cars just didn't get them. The Register shows only the construction details and last known activity in 1987 in France.

It seems the Series 2 had the rear lights all grouped together vertically. It's not the case on this car...

Not the one in my garage! A few series 2 cars have them grouped, but not many. The series three cars have the rear lights in a bar and the fogs built into the body. The Homologation docs show the Series 3 cars starting with 4093.

I have a C4 with a serial number of 16246 stamped at the FACTORY on the steering column (the most visible location and note the EVEN number) When this Euro C4 was imported into the USA, the customs people transferred this number onto the drivers door jam registration plate and the other importation documents. Everywhere else on the car, engine, chassis etc the numbers are 16249
So obviously mistakes are made when stamping numbers onto plates, even at the factory. It looks like Luigi put the "9" upside down in the stamping tool and either didn't notice the mistake or it was close to "knock off time" and didn't care, and went home for lunch.
So I have an even numbered C4! Probably the only one in the world!

In the case of one 365 GTC/4, it's sure. But I know another model in the same case.

Plate frames and automobile license in conformity.

Last info I had on s/n 3823 GT since Etienne update is that it was auctionned in Paris in october 1991, by Boisgirard in Vincennes. Originally red/havane. Only three (french?) owners before 1991.

Now, I try to contact the current owner of 3823GT...It seems to me that it lives in Chalon-sur-Saône (Burgundy, dept. of Saône et Loire). If you have his name and/or address, thank you to contact me by PM...
