Sold to Holland in 1976. Original engine (?) found and reunited with the (shortened) chassis. Sold to Stewart, totally restored to 250LM spec. According to Barchetta there is a second car...........
It had been crashed and put upside down. It was easier to put a Porsche body on the chassis than to hammer out a crashed aluminum one. See Rob de le Rive Box LM book for full story. Best,
There are also 3 pictures in this book: "Mag het een Ferrari zijn?" by Rob de la Rive Box. ISBN 90-6120-955-2
Correct. My apologies Marcel for not crediting you as the primary author. The above post was from memory and the Box name stuck in my head. I recall you having pictures and a explaination of this car and its Porsche rebody. I consider it one of the best books available on the LM's
Maybe there is a chinese clone of Massini's LM book with an undercover french authors name? Did you copyright the book in Asia? I think there is only one legitimate LM book
LM-P s/n 5899 , here the chassis . If a member could find the races/year where the pics are from, thanks to him Michel Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm still looking for a picture of 5899 at Weerbergrennen Austria 1965 with Etmüller winning. Anyone? Or at least the starting number?
It's worth mentioning a couple of things. The crash did not occure in a road accident as suggested in barchetta but in the rain during the second heat of the Engleberg H C .in late 1965. I am not a Porsche expert but the body installed was from a Porsche 906 with fiberglass pannels and gullwing doors which I don't think was a Carrera 6. just one man's opinion tongascrew
Great pix, thanks. For the record the car was red with the white stripe. just one man's opinion tongascrew
Have a look at the September 1995 issue of Sports Car Market page 23-24. Nice article about the 250 LM and #5899. The car is still very active today in Switzerland I think tongascrew
#5899 very active today in Switzerland? Are these the latest news? But here a Swiss comment from 1983:" ... sold to Paul Schouwenburg ... but (Schouwenburg) was still unable to restore the car, which was bought by pop singer Eric Stewart in June 1977, who had a new chassis built and the car restored by Rosso Ltd. ... ". Today, this very car seems to be Red Book certified and recently sold from RM for over $ 8 M to "North America". May be we missed something? Thanks for an update!
