Bardinon isnt really south so its a private collection i have never heard of ! Can you share some more details ?
No, not Bardinon. There are several 250 LMs in France and several in the southern part, in addition to dealer Jean Guikas/GTC Sarl. in Marseille. Marcel Massini
Several ? Guikas has 2 . Bardinon 1 . There are more than 3 LMs then ! Is it Wangs ? I know he has a SWB Cali somewhere in the south .
No, not Wang. His SWB California Spider is near St. Tropez and has nothing to do with a 250 LM. Stop guessing please. I will not tell you, the man wishes to remain private and anonymus. Thanks for understanding. Marcel Massini
Marcel, Im sure you know the quanity/distribution of LMs by country? USA,France,Germany,UK,Japan,Italy, etc? What are the numbers?
Hi Marcel, Have you ever considered doing an updated reprint? A lot has changed, a lot has happened since your first edition. I bet you'd easily sell another 5,000 copies!!
12 in USA 7 in France 4 in Italy 3 in Switzerland 1 in Germany 2 in Japan 3 in England 32 in total Marcel Massini
Hi Andrew Yes, I am working on it. Yes, a lot has happened since 1982. Osprey Publishing printed 5'000 copies back then, they are all long sold out and have become rare collectors items. Horton Booksellers in UK sells a copy of my book for GB Pounds £ 280. Original price was GB Pounds £ 14.95. Incredible. However, I wish to state that it is not my goal to sell as many copies as possible. Quality of the information is much more important to me and one can't make any money anyway with a specialist title like this. Marcel Massini
Also in France is a very period looking "recreation" with the Drogo style longnose. Far from looking like a fresh replica this one looks as run down as most of them did by the time they were 5 years old. Sorry for posting a replica, but I think its interesting. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Good news Marcel, my old original copy has so many pencilled in notes and extra photos stuck in over many years of observation. Thats a book which will only leave my hands when I pass on ! And do please ask me if you need any help with anything, I'm only too happy to contribute. Andrew
I hadn't seen this book mentionned in the thread... it's worth having if you can track it down... Where is 5909LM located these days? I enjoyed some real good seat time in it long, long ago. In the susequent re-restorations did anybody change the fuel tanks back to natural aluminum from the polished that Griswold did? From those with LM driving exerience did you ever suffer upshift mis-shifts? This was an occasional problem with 5909LM. Jeff
5909 is owned by Steven Read of San Francisco/CA. It can regularly be seen at Laguna Seca every August. Marcel Massini
To find rare books such as Marcel's 250LM title, www.abebooks.com is probably the best source. Also place your wish list with the major car book shops in Europe, the US and Australia.
It's the only LM that was built as a road car from the start. It is also the only LM bodied by Pininfarina, all the others were bodied by Scaglietti. It's also the only LM that I drove today, followed by a 250 GTO. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.
