Rob- Thanks. I was just wondering how life would have been different if I had bought the 250 LM for $9800 instead of Dino 246 GT 2984 for $10,600? Neither one had air conditioning, so it would not have made much difference and the SOHC V12s were easy to tune. Never would have survived my tours of duty overseas, though. A little hindsight would have been nice. Sometimes being practical is totally wrong.

    Ed,

Was that photo from the first ownership or the second time? 5909LM was a h*ll of a fun ride if one's left leg didn't give out and the ear plugs were in place.

Marcel there a three copies of your book on abebooks.com

    http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Massini&kn=Ferrari+250LM&sts=t&x=66&y=11

    Starting at 270$

To those who have the book, as I once told Marcel after interviewing Jackie Epstein 10 years ago: note that it was not 6051 which Jackie Epstein raced at Pheonix Park in Ireland: 6051 was already in a ship bound for Australai where it was due to race. In Ireland Epstein drove another borrowed 250LM, can't remeber which right now. IOther than than an excellent book that I have had since new.

Love LM's, my test drive of 6051 in cavallino issue 105 was a major highlight: the engine sounds like it is in your head and that driving experience is what it is all about not chassis numbers and speculation:)

    best regards,

    Marc

Even if this image looks like authentic sixties material, it's from an age when there was already aids. In the pic you see some aids, and they look a bit helpless.

Marcel or any one else that may know: My close friend has been intimate with the 250 LM that was the Paris Show car owned until recently by Tom Stegman of Cincinnati Ohio. I think the car was white. Any one know of this car?

Umm, did you look at the start of this thread? There are multiple posts with photos of this car by the current owner, MROZ.

Post #18 pic has Bill Victor in the background (tall gentleman) who oversaw Tom's restoration of 6025 and was his collection's caretaker for many years. Logo on his red ballcap reads 'Allard', IIRC.

To me anyways, the 250LM was one of, if not, the most beautiful classic Ferrari of all time........I remember as a 10 year old kid saving my allowance for 6 weeks so I could buy a 1/48 scale 250LM slot car........

    Great thread.

Hereby I show you a very nice picture of 250 LM s/n 5843 GT.
Taken on the 27th of march '66 during the ZOLDER GRAND NATIONAL.
With "Beurlys" (Jean Blaton) behind the wheel this car took victory.

5843 was the first of three LM's bought by the ECURIE FRANCORCHAMPS and, as it was the drivers' first contact with a mid-engined layout, posed certain difficulties. Only Willy Mairesse with his F1 experience was immediately happy.
An interesting episode relating to this machine was Jackie Ickx's debut with a Ferrari and in a major event, the Daytona 24-hour race in 1966 when he was paired with Leon Dernier.

Information from the book "Ferrari Ecurie Garage Francorchamps" written by Gianni Rogliatti and published in 1992 by Giorgio Nada Editore.

Here another one; taken at the national car show in Brussels, 1965.

Note the Sharknose scale model and the names of some period drivers on the wall; "Beurlys", Lucien Bianchi & Gérald Langlois.

I think this is 6023 GT, the second Ecurie Francorchamps LM.

If there was ever a Ferrari that I would build a replica of it would be the LM. Lack of funds to buy the real thing, and I'd omit the emblems. What a car!
