I think it has found a new home. Bernardi sold it for CHF 170,000 last September (9th Sept I believe). I was trying hard to buy it but for less money. Ecentually I decided that 1899 was more to my liking (Disk/Outside). When Bernardi last emailed me it sounded a sthough the car was staying in Switzerland.

Bernardi was a nice man to try and deal with. Seemed very straight.

What is that car in the background of the first picture? It looks very low and streamlined. Somewhat like a Bizzarrini. Was that a one-off for a special customer?

Photo #1 in my post #273 shows a crashed/damaged car (hidden) in between the 250 GT SWB and the Alfa 33 Stradale. Below is the answer what it is: The Fantuzzi Coupé body which once used to be on 330 TRI/LM chassis #0808.

Photo #3 in my post #273 shows a car under a cover/towel. Here is a picture of the car: 195 Inter Coupé Vignale chassis #0115 S. Freshly restored.

I also add another shot showing several SWBs being restored at Fantuzzi's.

The question of Abu Dhabi car (Marcel's post #150). Assuming the original colors on the sad remnants, there are details that point to 0989 and not 1303. Of interest is the rear license plate light. Early coupes usually (never say all) had a single rectangular plate light by Hella and this is what I see in the picture. This light is found into the 1000’s range of chassis numbers. By chassis 1303, the use of the twin dome lights seems well established for illuminating the rear plate of the coupe. I have seen unusual color photos of 0989 at the 1958 Paris Salon, one taken from overhead from the rear, clearly illustrating the Hella type license light. Both the trunk lid and the hood are open. The Paris photo also hints that there were no emblems on the trunk lid, but with the reflections, not 100% sure. I see no emblems in the desert car photo. The car was shown in Paris with luggage in the trunk - at least two larger pieces and one smaller (tan leather bags, generic, not necessarily matched to the interior). Sorry, unable to share the photo, it is a professional photographer’s, custom print, restricted with copyright. Regarding the interior of chassis 1303 and the interpretation of ‘beige” (Kare's post #191), Connolly 3243 is a light brown or sand color, very slightly darker than Connolly 3218 natural. 3218 has a little more orange tint in a comparison of side by side original samples. Chassis 1809 also listed as two-tone azzurro reale, black top, 3243 interior. As an outside plug car, this one would not have the small side marker lights at the sail panel. Always wondered about 0989. The Abu Dhabi scene was not what I had in mind!

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is extraordinary!

John Vardanian and Darren Jaffrey told me I better get on here quick and what a fantastic thread this is.

I've said since I bought my car that we needed a modern web based register for the PFs and this may hopefully turn into the start of a register and resource for PF owners. Having been through a long and painful restoration of one of these myself, I know how great the collective knowledge of other owners can be. John V was fantastic in sending me close up photos of parts of his car to assist with some of the tricky bits on mine.

The Readers Digest version of my car since I've owned it is at:

    http://www.tomyang.net/cars/othercars/wills.htm

Anyone willing for me to bore them for hours is welcome to get a more complete version.

One issue I have is that my car was one of 5 (??) fitted with Lucas electrics. Apparently Lucas sent a small number of Lucas Racing distributors to Ferrari to try on their race cars and Enzo looking to save a few lire fitted them to some road cars. Parts for these are impossible to find - distributor caps, points, rotor arms etc. Nightmare.

I've talked to many people about surviving numbers of PF coupes and my estimate is closer to 100 cars. So many of these were cut up to make replicas etc. Also, restoration costs generally still far exceed market value if you don't buy well in the first place so they become uneconomic for anyone but the foolhardy or fainthearted.

I'm so happy this thread exists.

    Not sure I'll sleep tonight!

Does anybody know whatever became of the Abu Dhabi car? It reminds me of a picture taken in a Saudi Arabian junkyard with cars piled 25 feet high. At the bottom of the pile is a 63 Corvette hulk.
With all the oil money in the middle east, are there still salvage yards and junk piles that could yield any restorable Ferrari hulks?

It would be interesting to see how many people watching this thread have Lucas Distributors on their cars. Maybe enough to finance a short run of them.

Well, in my never to be humble opinion, IF the car is real and correct, and is as good as the photos make it appear to be, than this is what all properly restored 250PFs are worth, and a properly restored 250 GTE 2+2 should be woth almost as much!!

Not to fan the flames, but isn't that like saying a 330GT should be worth just about as much as a GTC ?

Not quite. I simply don't think the difference in price between a 330GT and a GTC should be as much as it is, and I think both of them should be worth more than current values.

I also think classic Ferraris in "as new" condition should be worth substantially more than more modern counterparts. IE: An "as new" Lusso should be worth a lot more than a 456 or 612...

I respectfully disagree. One car, the GTC, is a sports car, the other is a GT. I have asked this question before. Namely, is a transaxle worth $40k?

In the end, it doesn't matter what you and I think about this question because the market has spoken. The two-seater, transaxle GTC is worth substantially more than the 2+2. Moreover the two-seat, drop top GTS is worth even more than the GTC.

Come on, doc. Are you trying to say that you have never heard of the old saw that the price goes up with the top goes down on two seats?

Of course, but not always true. As an example, an early 750 series Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce is worth about the same as an Alfa Romeo 750 series Spider Veloce.

    Hi Bryan,

The car, last I heard, is in South Florida. Unrestored and deteriorating as we speak. The owner plans to have the NEXT owner deal with restoration, providing there's any sheetmetal left. With all due respect to the owner, who is a nice guy, he's driving around a rolling parts car. It is in real sorry shape.
