Although I am having trouble judging the actual dimensions of the ashtrays from your photos, I think the smaller of the two is the typical size. I have seen both with and without the black base; not sure if this detail is related to carpet installation condition (early coupes, offset gearshift), or leather installation condition (later outside plug with center gearshift). Early cars certainly often had Ferrari shield, the flags were also used. Here are two examples. The red carpet is 1301GT. The black leather is 1977GT. 1007GT has some unique details including a larger ashtray (the blue leather photo here).

Thank you for the informative information and photos. So it would seem that there is no standard. Both types were available in period and may have been installed interchangeably or upon request. Any idea if they were every offered without shield or flags like the smaller of the two I have pictured?

I associate those flags with Pininfarina but that's conjecture on my part.

There has never been a "standard" with Ferrari, especially not in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
That is one of so many reasons why this manufacturer is so interesting, nothing is ordinary, everything is special and unusual. Everything is hand made, tailor made, custom.

It is a Monthly event. It is called DWA! Morning Motors and takes place in the parking lot across from the old Wrigley building.

Comparing your pics above with the beautiful interior in your car!

You may not remember, but we've met before via Alfista Patrick H. I have the blue Sprint you sat in at Gayle's Bakery after one of Patrick's drives. He told me yesterday the PF Coupe is yours. I didn't recognize you, otherwise I would have said hi. The green E-type @ DWA was mine.

Ah! Yes, I remember your Sprint well. I saw the Jag, but I didn’t make the connection. It’s nice to finally get out into the world again.

I have always been interested in the optional passenger seat headrest. I don't think I have ever seen an original unrestored car that doesn't have the headrest brackets in place. Every restored car has them missing. I searched for years for a headrest for my car but was never able to find one. Why do restorers not include an item like that? I have only seen one original car that had it intact.

For what it's worth, and for anyone interested, I have found out this car is still in Brazil, was repainted red, and is serial number 1691GT

I'm trying to assist in the assembly of a tool roll for a 1958 PF Coupe. There is a lot on Ebay about 160mm pliers, would that be correct for this kit? Also would appreciate photos of correct tool rolls. Grazie
