I believe the chassis had already been used to make a 250 GTO replica so better the shell lives on in this guise than be turned into baked bean cans.

If I had the money I'd love to find these old abandoned 250 shells left over from 250 GTO mutilations and mate them with modern Ferrari running gear to make a modern "old school" Ferrari.

GTE and 456 have a very similar wheelbase, but the 456 is quite a bit wider. Even so, probably not an impossible task.

I owned this car body.spotted it in a field and bought it for $2,500. After owning it for two years I realized that I may never find stuff like window trim and sold it to two brothers that had a shop in Tujunga,Ca for $3,200.They were known for building drag cars. They had a wicked blown 1941 Willys in the shop.
