Wondering if anyone out there has a line on where to locate the proper 250 wt rear diff oil as specified for the early cars.
    Thanks,

Back in those days there was not the anti-wear, anti-scuff additives and synthetics that exist today, so better and more effective alternatives exist that will do a way better job than the old heavy stuff engineered so to provide protection because of the lack of effective go juice available today.
I am sorry but I don't have a line on the heavy stuff. Would something better do?

Well sure something better might do, but I haven't found anyone that can reccomend a modern oil that gives satisfactory results yet. Can you? The heaviest I could find was something like 150 weight.

I had to replace the rear axle seals on our Pf coupe a few years ago. I believe I recall pumping Valvoline hypoid 90 weight into the rear end. I found a very handy 2 gallon jug with a hand pump on it. Have not had any whine or other problems since then. None before either, just a huge leak at the left seal. Ferrari of Seattle had no idea as to what seals to sell me, so I popped them out and took them to a bearing store and they matched them up perfectly with new units.

Ferrari recommends a modern (I think it is 90/140) synthetic, even for older cars. So far it is OK in my 330 (about 3500 miles worth). No noise, leaks, or posi chatter.

If you are really set on thick oil/grease, research the Antique car suppliers.

    Cheers

There are long discussions of diff oil choices and where to get them on Tom Yang's and Kerry Chesbro's sites
