ha, ok, guess i should have looked at some pics b4... from what i can tell the real one has 2 vents just behind the front tire, and bigger vents around the rear tire... so what was it?

Obvious a 275 GTB with GTO lookalike modifications.

    More a look-a-like of 275 GTB/C s/n 06701 when it was still red.

    Thanks for posting these pictures.

    It makes me so angry!
Why turn a perfect beautiful Ferrari into something it's not? And why another Ferrari, then? I hate it!

    Another Ferrari destroyed... :(

    Stefan,

I think several 275s were built like this (or modified early in their lives for racing purposes), it may not be a hack job (probobly is, but there's a chance...).

Any words from the experts on these matters?

    Sethmac86,

Thanks for posting - interesting pictures. The 275 seems out of place but if it's a real Ferrari, it should make for a fun entry.

    Regards,

    Art S.

I sure hope so. I don't have much of an issue with rebodies, but ruining a 275 is one thing and ending up with something that is basically a really bad 250 GTO replica is another.

You don't think it could be this one!?!? Look in the thread for " 275 chassis 8249". It would be a place to start to make one look like a GTO.

No, the car at the Gumball 3000 is not 8249.
The car in the Gumball 3000 is an early 275 GTB (2-cam, and just look at the small rear window compared to the later 275 GTBs) which has been heavily customised with air outlets in the rear fenders, outside fuel filler cap, flared rear wheel arches, fake air intake on the hood, different nose, wrong and too large headlight covers, and on and on. Another 275 GTB partially destroyed, unfortunately.

Check out the thread "250 GTO???" in the same section. The Gumball 3000 275 GTB has already been heavily discussed. It has NOTHING to do with any of the three genuine 275 GTB Speciales (06885, 06701 and 07185).

Ah, didn't make the connection between '250 gto' and a 275 at Gumball thanks.

This is the heavily modified 275 GTB/4 #09065 of Stafilopatis (Greece), photographed in Fiorano 12 May 2001 during the Modena Cento Ore Classic. This car was customised by Straman in Costa Mesa/CA in the early 1980s for then owner Bob Panella of Stockton/CA.

Your photo in post #6 shows 09065 on 18 December 1999 at the Brooks auction in Gstaad, Switzerland. There it was sold for Swiss Francs 410'500 to UK dealer Gregor Fisken who bought it for Mario Stafilopatis.

So you're saying somebody was trying to make this 275 look like a GTO? Any idea when that was? Back in the sixties or recently?

I'm shocked (and you know I like replicas, rebodies etc): If you have the will (euphemism for being nuts) to use a 275 as a base, why not do it correctly? I mean it is one thing if a 17 year old kid with a Fiero doesn't know what a TR really looks like, but it is an altogether different story if somebody is willing to cut into a 275 yet doesn't take the time to look at what a 250 GTO looks like.

Unbelievable. As it stands this car is ruined. It is neither a 275 nor does it look like a 250 GTO. If you go that far, why not go all the way and make it look real? I don't get it.

It looks like they tried to make it look like one of the Comp 275's ala #6885.

The owner of the 275 on the Gumball also has various other vehicles either entered in the rally or used for display purposes at the start of the rally. The Gumball garage also contained his Enzo (parked next to the 275) as well as an F40, Gemballa Porsche Cayenne and various others. He had 6 cars involved on the opening day of the Gumball in some way or another. The plan was to do the rally in his Veyron but it was not produced in time for the rally according to one of the organisers I spoke to. The owner is Kevin Stanford, married to Karen Millen of fashion empire fame!
Thanks for the info from everyone about the 275, it was definitely one of the highlights of the Gumball garage tour for me! :D

The 275 GTB is S/N 06941, it was customised à la 330 LMB by Foskers.

Doesn't this car (what ever it is determined to be) look like it is sitting very high? May be better suited to the Dakar than the Gumball:)

Very interesting info. There were also 2 brand new matching 2006 Mercedes SLRs in the Gumball also from Foskers. These were of course recent purchases!
