    $15,000

Speedway auto mall is like walking into a bee hive! If they see your tires touch the driveway, 15 people will come running out the door and literally will almost jump on the hood of your car! Thats alot worse then being ignored....Its a good place to get what you paid for :)

It looks as if they have stretched the body/hood the way it should be. That and along with all the mods makes it a steal at 15k. I have seen much less accurate ones go for more or at least being asked for more.

I wonder what the interior looks like and what condition it is in. It states to have been raced in vintage. That means it has to drive somewhat decently, but could also mean it is worn out. Oh well.

Edit: On second thought I'm not sure that hood has been stretched. Could be just the wide angle shot giving that impression. Without the stretching 15k would no longer be such a good deal at all. That is if you're in the market for such a replica.

No,I don't have to "Fool" anybody. I already DO own a "Real" Ferrari! I just think it would have been a Fun Toy. Put a Viper or Big Chevy Engine in it and have some fun. It said that it was a Track Car for 10 years. So,it could be a Fun little Toy,bring it to the Track,Etc...Besides. Looking at your Personal Profile. There not only isn't anything there. It also doesn't show ownership of ANY Ferrari...Real or Replica. So what are you talking about? Who's trying to Fool Who? "...Yeah,Man. I'm on 'Ferrari Chat!'..."

    huh?
You wrote "I wonder who bought it and what they plan on doing with it?"
I replied, "Spend time fooling people"
Had nothing to do with you owning a ferrari or myself owning a ferrari......

Its a replica, not real, but someone who would buy it, obviously would like the fact that they were trying to act like the had money, class, or a ferrari....When in fact all they had was a dressy POS!

I am going to bet you that ANY of the people here on FChat who DO own a Ferrari Replica have absolutely ZERO intention of Ever Trying to "Fool People" that it's the Real Thing. As a matter of FACT....Most of them already DO Also own a "Real" Ferrari,or have owned them. So,there's not anyone here trying to "Fool" anybody.

But,you are right about one thing...There cartainly are plenty of those types out there that don't have a Real one that would actually TRY to Fool somebody that it was Real....But,not here. I guess some people would rather have nothing if they can't have the Real thing. And,I guess that others may just buy it for what it is...And have alot of Fun with it regardless of what anyone else thinks. A "Classy POS"? Hardly. A FUN Car? Absolutely!

What would be more fun? The car being in it's Original state,(a Datsun 260Z) Or,simply putting on a different body. Modifying it. And having a Blast with it? Hmmmm. Easy choice. Maybe thats why there are so many Cobra Replica's out there. There is even a whole Factory/Company Called "Superformance" in South Africa that just builds (very Nice) Cobra Replica's. And they never even IMPLY that they are the "Real Thing". And,they are very successful doing it! You can even build a "New" '69 Camaro these days utilizing JUST aftermarket parts!

It's like, why are there so many people on FChat that don't own a Ferrari-or even a Replica of one? Why don't they find a Chat site that caters to whatever make of car that they own? Probably simply because they Love Ferrari. And,the ones that buy a Replica just take it the one step even further. IMO,it's certainly better than nothing!

If I were an 18-20 Year Old Kid. And,I loved Ferrari's. Then,I would have No Problem getting something that is Totally different than all of the Same Old Same Old Asian stuff that they are all running. And,being 45 Years old. Knowing that I don't have $600K for a "Real" Ferrari Daytona Spider. Or,3 Million+ for a "Real" 250 GTO. And,I wanted a Car that I could have alot of FUN with. Then, why not? Plus, you don't have to wory about it. Less cost to Maintain and Insure.Parking. ETC...All angles of owning one are Positive.

Your saying a Datsun 260z is a crap car, but you put a magical fake ferrari shell over it and its some sort of god send? I don't get it.....People take fieros turn them into F355's because they ALREADY own a Ferrari? What? Man I don't want to be a prick, but taking a Datsun and trying to make it look like a 250GTO is just pathetic! Now take original plans, mock up a frame and try and get it half way original is one thing, but to mix and match japanese, American and Italian ='s a mutt of a POS! Sorry Im just not a fan of the poser!

Nope. No where in my post do I see that I mentioned anything about a 260Z being a Crap Car. You did.

I don't know. You seemed to know all about the 250 Replica and the Dealership. You been looking there for something,Umm,"Cool"?

No,read into it further and you'll see that I said "Put a Big Chevy or Viper Engine into it and have some Fun".

    I didn't say a word about Fiero's. Again,You did.

I'm know that you aren't TRYING to be a Prick....I'm sure that it just comes Naturally.....You can't help it.

And,there were many cars built in the '60's and '70's that utilized Italian Bodies and Chassis, with American Iron. Pantera. Iso. Iso Griffo. Italia. Intermeccanica. Shelby,(Taking a British Car and sticking a Ford Motor into it.) And,I'm pretty sure that they did fairly well despite people like you. The cars are worth decent money now.

Poseur? ... Now why don't you exit FERRARICHAT and go and hit the streets in your Corolla and have some Real Fun!

You probably wont find anybody here that will side with you regarding Replica's. (Unless you live up North,Eh....:))

Here's your Fiero....It probably IS cooler than what you Drive!...:)

First off I agree with Huskerbill that we'd like to keep this discussion as civilized as possible, so please no name calling etc.

In regards to the poseur argument in combination with a 250 GTO replica, I just don't get it: If you are driving a 355 replica on Fiero basis I agree, you're trying to impress people and hence are a poseur. However what are the odds, that the world's most valued car estimated at over 20 million US $ of which something like 37 (?) were made is actually driving around in downtown Chicago or one of its suburbs going to a shopping mall? Slime and none and slim just left town.

Somebody in a 250 GTO replica is clearly a true fan of the car and just loves it. I can't imagine anybody who knows that this is supposed to be a 250 GTO Ferrari would actually believe it. It is just not possible. And if somebody is naive enough to believe it is the real deal and hence admires the owner of that replica, well how valuable is that adoration to begin with? I might as well go to a tribe somewhere in the jungle that has no connection to the outside world and tell them I'm the worlds greatest <insert your fav sport here> player and they would adore me for that. Great.

I have a hand painted oil replica of a Monet in my home. A late friend of mine painted it and it is well done and I love it for several reasons. Am I a poseur in the eyes of visitors to my home because of that? Do they honestly think an average middle class guy like me has a real oil painting from Monet in his home that otherwise hangs in the Art Institute? Hell no. It is obvious I love Monet.

yikes! Glad you are making assumption on what I drive....Keep guessing it should be fun....Im done with this topic, I didn't know you wanted to succeed into the life and passion of the replicar so much! A person with your passion of the fake should not be taken lightly, so I secede from this thread!

Wasn't there something like only 100 official factory made Daytona Spyders made? Add in the very detailed conversions of the coupes and is the number in the low hundreds? As the only fan of the garage queen mentality, I see no harm in having a replicar if you own the real deal. Personally I wouldn't mind bringing out my baby when the conditions are to my liking. However, if I wanted to just zip around for a day and not worry about the car being keyed, a threat of rain, parking it when I can't see it, a very well done professional replicar would be ideal. It wouldn't be my first choice, as a modern 355 or Maranello would be better, but if you really had a threat of something to happen to your car, want a bit of confidence in the drivetrain, why not replicar? I would only do a Vette if there was no other options. Besides, how much would it take to bastardize a 400i or the successor to the Daytona, ( I forget the name, ) which even shared the same lines?

A GTO is a different case. I think you can't really compare a car that was placed into the overkill department of copy thanks to Crockett and Tubbs and Chevy with a car that costs 10 million. Its odd to say, but it is still fact that it is more easy to garner a real Daytona Spyder than a 250 GTO. Thanks to the 80s the Daytona style certainlly went over the flood line. I really doubt that if someone is able to own one car that costs as much as 10 of today's supercar, he would try to emulate the experience of just one car. I am going to take a wild guess and say the supercar owner would simply move into a different category of sportscar. Ralph Lauren is a good example, GTO owner and to the other extreme McLaren F1. I really doubt he says he needs to emulate the experience, rather he just moves on to something else because he has the means to.

There is a huge difference between a car that costs more than 10 mil and another that ranges from 300K to 500K. I am thinking that a Daytona owner most likely is pushing the limits of his bank with the Spyder, making that the gem in his collection. Its just a guess. Whereas the GTO owners probably own the bank so the need to save and find cheaper means is not an issue. Then again if someone is able to afford a car that costs half a million and wants to pay a tribute to it and preserve it, knocking out a futher 100K for a genuine Ferrari/Daytona conversion (the 400i idea ) wouldn't hurt them too much. I think a Vette would be a cheap way out for them. Does anyone know of a conversion of a later Ferrari into a Daytona clone?

Here is a bit of irony for all those who think that replicars cheapen/dilute the recognition value of the real deal: More real Daytona Berlinettas have been converted into Spiders than the number of real Spiders produced by the factory (127 to over 135 to be precise).

I don't know of a real Ferrari made into a Daytona clone, but apart from the formentioned Spider conversions, MANY GTBs have been modified into the more appreciated/exotic competition version....

That may be true, but I would wager the lion's share of them, were modified for actual competition rather than for fashion or resale.

    Hi Frank,
I think you and KTG, may have gotten off a bit on the wrong foot. He is a good guy. I have spent time with him and his family, up at Road America a number of times. I wouldn't refer to him as a poseur, he has never claimed to be an owner, but as an Ferrari enthusiast, OH YEAH! He is good people.

Thanks for that,Bill. Hey,you know that I am a very easygoing guy. That finds,(try's to,anyway) Humor in everything. I was fine and all until he started giving me grief about the 250 GTO Replica. So,not being one to have ever backed down from anybody. I just Stuck up for myself and any others that may own,or like Replica's. Which there are quite a few here on Chicago FChat. Apparently,He doesn't know that. And it is somewhat of a sore subject here. I mean,we've been through this Discussion before. And,I stick up for Replica's even though I don't even own one. So I suppose that in the future,I'll just leave it be.

Plus. When I don't see any kind of information whatsoever in the Profile,ETC...You don't know who you are chatting to. It could be just anyone...or anyone that just wants to start up some Crapola, because,he doesn't have anything in his Profile, and cannot get followed back to. Thats been the way it's been in the past. Some guy starts up an FChat account with absolutely Zero info. Starts a bunch of Crap. Then disappears. Then, comes back as someone else. So,I wasn't going to take any chances...If that was in fact what was happening. I wanted to make sure that I gave the guy some Grief....:) But,all in Fun.....:) I would suggest that if someone plans on sticking around. That they fill out their FChat Profile.

But,hopefully everyone saw the Humor that I tried to portray in my Posts back. My Right hand is extended....And I have 2 Beers in my Left...:)

I don't really like to leave a digital paper trail......Bill knows me and Im real, And I am from around the Chicago area. No I don't have a Ferrari(yet) and yes you might not ever find a bigger car nut! I like a good topic tussle, but you seemed as though you owned a replica....And not knowing if someday we might meet along the way, I decided to not pursue the chat anymore....It was all in good fun. Sometimes beliefs need to be questioned to try and understand them....Its all good :thumbs up:
