Reading Forza's buyers guide shows a 250PF drop in price of around $75K compared to a couple of years ago. Seeing the buyers guides in Forza and the prices quoted always seems inaccurate to me. What are these cars typically getting in a driver condition, a clean car not a rat but not pebble beach material either. Just thinking out loud here if I make a move from the boxer.

    Hi Paul,

Hope the winter has been kind to you up north!

I have had three in the past 24 months. The least expensive we purchased was $195K. The most expensive sold had an asking price of $239K.

Most private owners still value their respective cars well above $200K.

I believe real selling prices at the moment are averaging probably just a penny or two over $200K for most examples. Condition, originality, level or restoration and current state of service are huge factors when sales actually take place.

I was offered a "basket case" engine-less hulk over a year ago at $40K. Even if it were free you would still loose major money on such a "project."

At the same time, I have a client in Germany with a really fantastic car and nearly $300K in receipts on what has to be the best restored example I have ever encountered. He believes the car to be worth close to 300K Euros. I have offered $245K dollars. I think my offer is far more reflective of the market but he thinks time will catch up to his price.

Only one of us is right.

By the way, finally sold the one-owner all red BBi. It only took a year!

    Cheers,

    Bill

Thanks Bill! So far the winter has been better than usual and hoping for an early spring. The forza article is way off then as I suspected. The range was $125K to $175K, I think I need to get a little more for my boxer than expected!

What did the boxer sell for?

    Paul.

I am sure there are more than a few PFs in that price range. Probably the same ones with missing engines and gearboxes. Others that probably have odd engine transplants from your favorite 60s era Ford or Chevy. Don't forget how many nice S1 cars got bought simply to have a source of spare drum brakes for a TDF / TR!

It would be inappropriate to comment on the BBi's selling price but can state publicly that the asking price had been reduced to $159K and we did not get asking price! Nice car. Too bad we bought it just over a year ago when they hit their peak!

The good news is we still have the "delivery mileage" BBi sitting in the wings for a very brave buyer.

    Cheers,

    Bill
