Did the pictured person with the Barrett fall on his butt? It looks like he's being rocked.

 

Allmost! It did lift my foot off the ground (as you can see in the pic.) I figured 3 rounds offhand was enough. PS: I did hit the steel square at 100yds all 3 times. Amazing gun.

Not at all, recoil has lots of 'thrust' to it (ie, moves you back) but it's slow and low-speed, so it does not feel any more severe than an ordinary 12-gauge shooting 2&3/4"-ers.

The muzzle brake that eats over 70% of the muzzle energy helps a lot. Withought the brake, I think it'd break my collarbone. Fourteen THOUSAND foot-pounds and all...

 

Clean kill heart shots with his own homebrew loads. BTW, he's a nephrologist from Duke, now resides in NM.

My "Truck Gun" - plain vanilla Springfield 1911A1 w/Wilson 8 rd mag. For close-in utility work, say 7-10yds. Also have a Kimber Stainless Compact for plinking.

My nephew is undercover DEA. His guvmint issue sidearm is a Sig P229 in .357 Sig cal. That and a match grade M16 w/Kevlar tipped rounds. He's proficient enough to hit center of mass offhand rapid fire at 50 yds with the Sig. Also deer hunts in Ohio with a Benelli Super 90 12 GA. Last kill was a heart shot at 100 yds.

Anybody hunt with 6.5 Swede? 1898 Mauser. Never hunted with it but very accurate at 1000+ yds.

So true!!! I'm heading out to the range as we speak with the my AR-50! Can't/won't fire that thing standing up though...even with the very effectice muzzle brake. My usual hunting rifle of choice is the Remington Model 700, 25-06..packs a punch and extremely accurate in my hands. Although I was stunned at the accuracy of the AR-50...can routinely put round after round in the same hole at 300-yds...must be a combination of the weight of the gun (40lbs) and the mass of the bullet (860gr, I think). That's not even using competition rounds..I buy cheap Central American military surplus from Midway!!!

 

If you can fire it prone or off the bench, I'm sure you could fire it offhand (IF you could lift it that is ) withought injury.

The Armalite (I have it's little brother, AR-30 .338 Lapua Mag) and Barrett brakes are very similar, and very effective!

I wish my Barrett was that accurate, as is the best I can wring out of it is 1.5MOA. But it will send a tad over a POUND of lead downrange very quickly

 

Yeah, the semi's are a little less accurate for some reason. I test fired a used Barrett like yours the shop had for sale at the time and didn't get quite the same results..sure a hell of alot of fun though!!!!
