As above, does anyone know what it would of been in period? Most restorations seem to favour plain copper, but I know many cars of that period had the olive green steel pipe. Any advice would be great!

Chris: 275 GTB's were built with copper-plated steel brake lines. I know you see cars today with solid copper brake lines, but that is crash waiting to happen, not safe. There are new materials today that are an alloy of copper and nickel for brake lines. they are easier to bend and safe.

… and I believe the “olive green steel pipe/tubing” became common and readily available much later (1990s ?).
It has a coating (kind of like plastic or teflon) on steel tubing intended to help prevent external corrosion/rusting in the harsh climates/environments.

Also worth considering that brake line tubing can be subjected to far above 1000 psi pressure, so choosing material merely for aesthetic reasons may not necessarily be smartest approach.
I’ve experienced/seen old/original brake lines on Daytonas burst under pressures.
Fortunately, these instances didn’t result to collisions or major damages and mind you that these happened when the examples were less than 40 years old.
And now over 10 years later, how many Daytonas are still running around with their original tubing ?

Not plain copper but NiCopp or Cunifer. It is roughly 89% Copper and 9% Nickel with trace elements of iron and manganese. Brake, Fuel and Hydraulic Line | FedHill (cunifer.com)

The copper alloy lines are a pretty good substitute for the original brake lines; however, they are a very pale shade of copper. If you are aiming for a concours level restoration, these lines will stand out.
