Refurbishing the coolant system on a 275 and would like to remove, test and paint the heater core as well as wrinkle finish the housing it resides in. Removing the heater core from under the dash appears tedious but relatively straight forward with the exception of two support brackets affixed to the housing. The brackets cross over one another to form a v and are attached to the housing by way of nuts and bolts which can easily be removed. The problem is that one bracket is riveted to the underside of the lower dash lip and the other bracket appears to be welded to the underside of the top of the dash. Neither bracket moves very much when detached from the core housing and I don't believe there will be enough clearance to remove both the housing and core together from under the dash once all the housing hardware has been removed.

Any guidance/assistance would be much appreciated.

The upper bracket is welded to the upper part of firewall just below the window frame, and the other bracket is usually bonded into the fiberglass of the dash itself. I have never tried to remove the heater box and core without removing the dash, as we usually only do it when we are doing a complete restoration of a car.
The dash comes out quite easily. There are just two screws on each end securing it to the body and the one support at the heater core. But this is after you have removed the steering column housing/switch assy.

Once the dash is out, the heater box and core will clear the upper bracket that is welded to the firewall no problem.

Many thanks to 335s and Brian for your responses. I was afraid the heater core removal might require the dash be removed as well as Brian has detailed in his response. I removed the steering column (shaft) earlier for cleaning and paint and was thinking I'd remove the column housing/switch assembly as the housing is chipped and in need of restoration. The column is still out of the car and it would appear that now would be a good time to do all of this. Thanks again for your assistance.
