For S/n 10025 Outside mirror. Would anyone know if it should have one and if so which brand/design and were to get one and the other question I have : The air cleaner: painted or powdercoated ? Thank you
I'm going to hazard a guess (and it's only a guess) and that is that the air cleaner should be black crinkle finish via hammertone paint. We'll see what the experts say. Best, Dave
I like the cars without the outside mirror. As far as the air cleaner, I had mine stripped, powder coated, then used black satin paint as a top coat. Crinkle was not used on this model as far aas I know.
We sniffed at a couple of these cars a few years ago(4?)-of which there are precious few-{so few, in point of fact, that when a noted expert was shown the build sheets, he declared it to be a car previously unknown to him!}, they are rare, and rather unique. Production queues are rather random as most were to order affairs-with a watchful eye on competition. 10025 is a kinda late car...most of the really funky ones are in the nines. That I've seen, some have headresats-and not consistent in fitment either, some (2) are known to have come with outside fillers-but only 2, and 1 actually came with a factory roll bar{!}. Center consoles were another oddity. How is this car fitted out? Mirrors are another issue. This is an issue which may or may not be in the sheets. It was in the sheets I've seen on these cars, but doesn't mean anything really. As for the mechanicals, ONLY 1 I've seen came with a legit, HOT motor. Cams are one thing, but when combined with specific carbs/venturis, lift and duration, notes on different advance curves...well there are hot, and then HOT motors... My point in all of this....these are the near end of the line for "specials"....each one is basically unique and different. That being said, there is not a case for what is "correct', but what was this particular car like, and how was it built? This should be your quest... I would do a comprehensive ownership history...talk with the old owners, ask for photos if any...ask if it was shown, who worked on the car, ask to speak with those guys...in general, if we can remeber a specifioc car, we gladly BS aabout the "good ole days" with new owners and are always willing to offer memories to the best of our recollection. Really, in cars like this, which have such uniqueness issues, this is how I would approach it.... Good Luck, please let us all know what you find out about the stories and past antics of your car!
The air cleaner was black satin paint originally. The Fispa air filter tag would have been riveted to the air cleaner body. The outside mirror would have most likely been a Talbot Green Dot with the longer of the two mirror bases. You can purchase the mirrors at Aardvark International. As far as the History of 10025.........Errrrrr not that great ! Barchetta do list Mr.Tom Meade as an owner in the late 70's and Mr. Ralph Gorenstein in 1981. If any one has contact details for these Gentleman PLEASE p.m. Me and if anyone could like to assist in tracking down the "past" of 10025, I'd be greatful. The current statis: car was started last week (first time since 1998 when somebody else disassembled her) and is going to be a "daliy driver" this summer. Thank you All for your help horizon
