Good morning all. Working on removing the engine from a 275 GTB-4. Lots of oil leaks and therefore need to do seals, gaskets, and while out most likely replace the clutch. Have the factory overhaul manual, but sadly it is for the earlier 275 GTB cars and it does not cover the 4 cam engine or the torque tube removal & installation. While I do have a good idea of what needs to be done, I am sure that there are some experts on the 275s out there that may be willing to share some helpful advice on removing (and re-installing) the engine and torque tube. The photo shows where things stand at the moment.

The 275 GTB/4 has the same chassis as the 330 GTC. The removal procedures are the same. Remove the bolts that attach the bell housing to the engine. Remove the clutch slave cylinder. Remove the bolts that attach the torque tube to the bell housing. Loosen the coupling at the front of the driveshaft. There is an access hole in the torque tube. Remove the bolts from the transaxle mounts and move the transaxle to the rear as far as it will go. This should allow you to move the torque tube to the side of the bell housing and allow the bell housing to be removed. Next remove all the electrical and fuel lines, The engine should be free after you remove the 2 engine mounts. You should support the transaxle and engine from below with jacks.

    Hey Bill,
Thank you for responding with all of that information. Have you found that it is better to disconnect the shift linkage at the transaxle or at the shift lever?
Also, I was going to undo the drive axles from the transaxle in order to get enough distance moving the unit rearward - or have you found that there is enough range of motion in the universal joints to leave them attached? Looks like there is 2.75" between the transaxle and the boot bulkhead.
    Paul
