Observations from the Automobile Quarterly "Wild Thing" article on the del Rio 4-cam: The special order "del Rio Green" color matched by Scaglietti to the original owner's sample is mentioned in the article. There is no mention of the car having been ordered without bumpers, but the photos show no bumper mounts - the nose and rear valance were clean, no holes. Optional wire wheels are mentioned. No Cavallino badge on the rear deck lid (RM photos show the car presently has the badge). The car had a radio antenna just below the rear window to the driver side. There appear to be other perhaps post-delivery or ordered modifications; the article states "the car has been somewhat amplified since its delivery": The addition of a "Sebring" mirror at the driver's door, color-matched to the green (compare to the chrome Talbot style mirror at present). If you look close at the interior photo, you see what looks like a Heuer rally timer on glove-box door (present RM photos show a rally timer on the glove box).. The car at the time had a leather rim steering wheel with holes in the spokes (compare to present traditional wood-rim steering wheel). Electronic ignition boxes on the engine compartment sides (now removed). The owner substituted Weber 40 DCN-9 carburetors according to the article, shown with velocity stacks. There was a Ferrari SF shield placed on the tail panel, right of the license plate. Mr. Dan del Rio owned the car at the time of the article.
Chromed horse (Cavallino) on the trunk lid (above the Ferrari script) had to be added for the certification. In 1990 09831 had no exterior rear view mirror at all and the radio antenna was long gone (see post 24). Here's an interior pic I took in 2003. Note instrument on glove box door lid. Good morning, And while we’re on the subject of “GREEN” 257GTB/4 cars. Back around 1977or so, Dick Scoby owned a Gorgeous 275GTB4 that was Green with “tan” interior…what was his serial number and do you have any pics of THAT CAR? I have a couple somewhere…had driving lights in the grille with yellow covers on those lights as I recall… anyone know much about that car…. I do know that Dick did sell the car after a few years.. showed it at the New Hope auto show in those days. Thanks, in advance, for your help here. Does anyone know where it is today?
