That would be kinda cool to have. I wonder if it fits like an original part?

Very cool part, but no way worth the price IMO. Stock steel deck lid weighs 55lbs with the louvres etc. Glass counterpart weighs 44lbs. So for approx 35lbs savings (that thing is naked so I doubt that much), that's $71.42 per pound lol. Who am I kidding, I would buy it if I could. It's so sad I know !

    Great find though!

I’m pretty sure a decent lid could be done under 10 lbs….it’s on the list right after the engine.

a rear deck lid like that will be my next project. Currently i'm busy with the front.
The mould for the outer skin is just ready and now i'm working on the mould for the reinforcement the first home made one will be ready soon.

Just for some practice and fine tunng i'll start making some fiberglass ones first and than shift to Carbonfibre.

The rear deck lid will follow asap

Isn't the front hood made of aluminum and it's light enough in weight?

oke BillyD. pm me for your contact and if something reasonable comes if these first attempts i'll let you know. I'm sure we can work something out than.

so true, however in my attempt to build a true track car the total gain will be something considdering all hinges and the stuff to keep it in place will also be gone as i'm planning on using djuz fastners only. the original hood is actually quite heavy btw. The skin is alu but the frame is steel.
And as said, my ultimate goal is a full carbon lid that will weight probably not more than 2-4 lbs

Keep me posted please. I'm definitely in the market for front and rear deck. Fiberglass is ok, but carbon fibre would be really the sweet spot.

    Then there are these guys:

    http://www.ferraricarbon.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=19

Except for the expensive rear deck, I got all their other carbon fibre products for the 308. Partly for weight reduction, partly for looks. :)

I also found carbon fibre door covers for the inside. Was a unique find on ebay.

I'm not so hot about the front hood (Berlinetta motors in NY does them), but the front wing 288 GTO style. The shop in Arizona used to offer them but they went belly up. :(

I think it's a members car (ddiesen) and i don't think the spare will fit:)

The spare is the first thing I tossed out. It's all about saving weight. Turned it into a nice coffee table. :)

Today i made my first front lid! And it turns out not so bad. As it's the skin only it's pretty flexible but the next step is making a mould for the reinforcement frame.

    keep you posted!

however, as i'm busy now anyway i might end up with something similar as the lid on a F40LM..

    Looking fantastic.

I was at a Ferrari event today telling everybody about your efforts.

    OMG!

I feel like writing you a blank check. I'd be happy to "just" get a carbon fibre front lid, but now you're talking LM style?! You just sent me into a frenzy over the moon.

I ditched my spare tire a long time ago and I'm planning on replacing the cooler with a modern one anyway, so a LM style front lid would be the best. Aside from its killer looks.

    You rock!

Definately no spare in thuis car.
The hood is a one off piece I made here in AZ using Epoxy/glass as you can do a lighter layup that maintains better stability with the heat as opposed to using a polyester resin. I did the same with the decklid. Front bumber is an old Jimmy Carpenter piece, and the side skirts are early Koenig pieces off of Will Degroot's (sp) 308. All the Fab work on the suspension, radiator, grill, etc. was done at a local fabricator here. I did replace the front valance with the one from Berlinetta with the brake ducts (former valance a victim of a curb) and had the car repainted and carpets and interior done.

Had talked to st@ven about purchasing the decklid mold I had but it was an old Jimmy Carpenter mold that had clamshelled, (no supports) and the only way to make it work is by using a very light layup and using a Michelotto style hinge and wing to pull it back into shape. I'm sure he would not have been happy with it and looks like he's done it right and has a much superior product. Your part is only as good as your mold.

(Still need to fix those taillights) :)

Not to rekindle an old argument, but who else has found that 308s handle a bit better when there IS the extra weight of the spare up front?

    Is it just my imagination?

    OMG!!!

This is the most beautiful 308 I've ever seen! Congratulations!

You have done what I can only dream of. Right now I'm working on getting those wheels/tires. I noticed the exhaust and missing diaper, that's planned for the future. I totally love the front hood. Steven hopefully will help out there.
But the best are your killer Koenig skirts. I tried to get those, but was too late. I'll never have those and have to live with that. Oh well. Love the red roof (ok, it's a GTB, they came that way) and the Euro bumpers (got them already). Only for the rearview windows I'll go a different direction: 288 GTO style

Anyway, congratulations, your car is Uebercool.

PS: Why didn't you blacken the bloodline?
