While on vacation in Germany/Italy today (visiting all several car factories, such as BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Zonda, etc...) I spotted a very strange and unknown car. The spotting occurred while driving on road 23 & 187 (Grainau) near the Germany/Austria border in Garmisch. After a brief drive, the owner eventually pulled over into a rest-stop as it appeared he was trying to troubleshoot the car.

As you can see, the rear deck has a Ferrari badge on it, while both the front and rear had a circular emblem with an unknown logo on it. The car also had Ferrari wheels and brakes, and also had Recaro badged seats. As the owner got out of the car, he appeared to be wearing a Maserati sweater and appeared to be pretty wealthy. Perhaps this is a one off custom car like a Zagato or Pinnfarina? The headlights remind me of a Weissman, the rear exhaust are similar to that of a 360 Modena, and the front windshield/cabin appears to be 100% custom or something from the likes of Pininfarina.

Any ideas on what this car is? I've asked several of my fellow car enthusiasts and we're all stumped. I figured this could be a pretty interesting thread and a great first post for Ferrarichat.com

Interesting. I'd say: Some sort of "kit" car, and the owner has a a lot of fun with people wondering about what kind of Ferrari it is. However, the design of the rear end, while not really beautiful, looks to professional for the usual kit car makers (compare i.e. to the Ultima). However, the design is not professional enough to be from one of the big names. Really strange.

    Btw, welcome aboard! :)

I think its credible, rear tires/whole suspension setup looks right. The 'enzo' doors and 360 mirrors are also interesting.

Strange indeed...reminds me of an Ascari. Did you get any side profile shots?

    I vote kit car...

Ferrari script looks like it was carelessly torn off a mondial...

Then there is the obvious... what are the odds of a real ferrari custom flying under the radar, to be spotted in the wild?

No, unfortunately I was just driving by so I didn't get the VIN or any detailed pictures. I wanted to stop and take more pictures, however the owner didn't appear too thrilled with me following him and taking pictures of the car (especially since it appeared he was troubleshooting an issue with it). The engine did sound like a Ferrari so I'm pretty sure the chassis and engine is Ferrari sourced at the very least. Also is it me or does the windshield and side windows look like a Pininfarina P4-5?

As for the Ferrari badge, the "i" was crooked, however, we all know how easy it is to bend one of the letters if carelessly washed or touched. Any thoughts on the circular emblems on the front and rear? I can't seem to find a similar looking logo online.

Attached are a few other pictures of it plus a picture of a Pininfarina P4-5 for reference.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm glad to see everyone is as stumped as I am. In hindsight, I wish I would have taken more pictures...

Given the doors it might be Enzo based like Jim's car but the idea that it wouldn't be known before this is highly unlikely.

Nice find, thats exactly it. I wanted to say it was based on a newer Ferrari, but the exhaust, wheels and logo seem to scream 360 Modena.

Thanks for figuring that out, now I can sleep...

Here's a link to an article about the car:
    http://www.auto-car-shop.com/2009/12/sbarro-l-o-concept-presented-at-the-essen/

"Sbarro, a designer who is very different from their creations with the rest of the bodybuilders and coaches attend the last Essen Motor Show to a very interesting model, called LO (List Office) Concept .

The design is based on the Ferrari Testarossa , detail that we appreciate its dimensions, its tires and other aspects. The engine of this new beast is a boxer’s V12 Testarossa 450 hp.

As for the aesthetic Sbarro will take the trouble to create a completely new car. In the front we see 4 Optical separated, and an air intake that is also separate. On the side is a large air intake at the rear wheels, another air inlet side of the window and tires that identify where it comes from this model.
And in the back are seen some nice lenses, built a spoiler, four exhaust outlets, the logo of Ferrari and many other details that make it very well.

As with the rest of his creations, Sbarro leave him exposed in his personal hall of concepts rare, since unless someone with lots of silver are interested in their model, I do not get sold to the public . This is another of many incredible developments Sbarro that always leaves us thinking. Ojala that some of their ideas reach production at some point."

Sorry my fault, the full name is Sbarro Alcador II GTB and has a V8. It was built in 2008 and modified in 2009.

The first Alcador was based on a TR and built in 3 examples.

Here's is the text from Franco Sbarro's website:

"In 1995, Franco Sbarro presented the Alcador, a superb machine whose particularity was the ventilation system of the engine. The owner, a German, asked Franco Sbarro to design a new model: the GTB Alcador, presented in Geneva in March 2008.
The two cars have no link between them. The 1995 Alcador was based on a Ferrari Testarossa, which it took over the chassis, the trains and V12 engine. The Alcador GTB is based on a Ferrari 348 GTB: V8 engine, centrally positioned and pushed about 400 horses, with improved braking 8 piston calipers, larger wheels with 20 inch rims OZ.
The body is classic. The owner wanted a car less exuberant than the first Alcador. However the GTB has opening doors in elytra and a strong visual presence. Some observers found the air of family with the Ferrari 330 P4 1967 (a car that Franco Sbarro knows for working on it and then made a superb replica). As the Turbo S20, the lights are taken from the Fiat Seicento and the Smart Coupé.
After a first exhibition at the Geneva Motor Show 2008, the Alcador GTB was presented at the Essen 2008. The owner had meanwhile placed Ferrari badges which were overshadowed by a black adhesive at Essen : he didn't want to irritate Ferrari!
The name Alcador is just the first syllable of the name of the owner's daughters: Aline, Catherine and Dorine."

and this is the car we have here:

"The Alcador GTB presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2009 is an evolution of the 2008 model. Instead of the V8 from the Ferrari 348, Franco Sbarro installed the most recent V8 360 Modena. Unchanged, it develops 400 horses.
This second version of the GTB Alcador differs externally from the first 4 entries by air either side of the front and a redesigned rear.
A third version of the GTB Alcador was presented in Geneva in 2009: the LO with a 12-cylinder engine Testarossa."
