has anyone done this to a 308. i like the look of the 288 gto mirrors. there is a set for sale on ebay - a reproduction set i believe. i dont know if they are manual, i do not have power mirrors on my 308 gts, so they would have to be manual or cut the wires. anyway, do these mirrors fit ok? any one have pics of what these mirrors look like on a 308? is there a better source for these reproduction mirrors other than ebay?
    thanks

mine are electric. in fact, I've never heard of one NOT having electic mirros.

all the cars came with a manual handle in case of a battery death or maybe a motor failure, but I've never known or heard that the power mirrors were not standard on all 308's.

I dont think the Factory went to installing mirrors until electric, somewhere in the early 80s???

The standard mirrors on the 70s cars were manual adjusted Vitaloni Californias, the tear drop shaped ones....

I never noticed yours were electric, where are the control switches mounted??

It's got to be the same guy on ebay. He sells the whole kit.

They have a good size bolt and nut. So you will need to drill a good size hole. To tell you the truth, I hope they fit.

I'll try and get a photo of them. They are all painted and ready to install.

thanks Chris. my other concern is that they cover up the holes from the old mirror, i think my stock mirror has 2 outboard holes in each, and these 288 mirors dont look that wide at the base to cover up the old mounting holes.

Is the seller located in Ventura? If so, I can see if I can go by and take some measurements.

BTW, I think all carb'd cars were manual with the California mirrors. Also, I think all the QV's were electric. Not too sure about the 2V injected cars.

helo Henry, thanks for the offer to go see the mirrors. yes, it is the one in ventura - he is on ebay. my concern is that the 288 mirors will not cover up my existing 2 mirror holes for mounting. the existing holes in my 308 are 2.5 inches apart - it doesnt look like these mirrors will cover up the holes.
also, chris, see what you think about this - perhaps take a measurement with your 288 miror and your existing mount holes.
    thanks all

I'll try and get a photo for you.

I just need some time cause I'm working 7 days for three months and they are boxed up in some corner of the garage.

BTW, I don't think they will cover up the 2 holes.

The mirrors are the worst part of a GTO. When I am driving one all I want to do is take them off. The were made taller to allow seeing over the big rear fenders and cut out a lot of forward vision to front angles. They create large blind spots in your direction of travel when turning and hide rather large objects in those directions.

good point Brian, i have heard of the blind spot problem before. i may make a cardboard template and put in place of the mirror and drive around and see how it works for me.

yes Chris, i dont think they will cover up those old mounting holes either - hmmmm.

    Mirrors sean, not windows...d'OH!!!

Don't know what I was thinking. For somer reason I had it in my head that the windows are electric and they are but not all the mirrors are electric A buddy wired up some 911 mirrors he had painted red onto his .79 308 b/c the looked better than the OEM and were larger.

All mirrors electric with introduction of fuel injection models.

The base of the 288 mirror will not cover the footplate of the big flat electric 308 mirror, so if you want to put them on your car you're looking at paintwork as well. I think the '84 models had yet another mirror with a smaller base, which might be covered by the GTO-style mirror.
