Hey 288 GTO owners. I have a question about the door side mirrors. I want to put a pair of these mirrors on my 308 (I posted in the 308 section). Some have responded that it creates a huge blindspot and it is a pain to see out of with the mirrors in the way. So, I have 2 questions, do these mirrors obstruct vision that bad? And, are the mirrors themselves effective for rear view as intended? i made a cardboard template of the mirrors (to my best guess) and sat in the car, it appears that viewing the mirror will be thru the triangle door windows.
If anyone knows where I can get a set of these at a decent price, let me know that too.
    Thanks
    Gionni

I have no experience with 288 GTO mirrors and their effectiveness as applied to 308 bodywork.

However, Ive driven half-a-dozen 288 GTOs and in my humble opinion, the way the mirrors are mounted on a stalk causes their rearward visibility to be nothing short of excellent. You should know that on a genuine 288 GTO mounting positions of the door mirrors are staggered: the driver's door unit is mounted just an inch from the leading edge of the door, and the passenger door unit is mounted four inches from the leading edge of the door. All-in-all, I would rate overall rearward visibility from a 288 GTO to be the best of any Supercar I have ever driven - and that includes all four Ferrari Supercars, and the Lamborghinis as well.

Hopefully you can make them work for you.

great writeup, thanks joe. i will keep in mind the offset. how is the forward vision, thats where i got negative comments before - like it creates a blindspot looking forward out of the car. thanks

In a genuine 288 GTO there is no blind spot like Ive experienced in other cars, however I feel that if the mirrors are mounted & adjusted to your height by a second party with you sitting the car, you should have excellent results.

    Hi everyone,

it just so happens that I have a set of original 288 GTO mirrors, that would be up for sale…. According to eurospares their prizes for one mirror would be about 1200-1500 US$ incl. VAT, if there would be any mirrors available in the first place.

So if anybody would be interested plse feel free to contact me via PM.

    Best Rgds,

    Tobi.

i have sometimes a blindspot on left corners. But could deped on drivers size. Rear view visibillity is perfect and as Joe said, the best of the supercars!
