Does anyone know what the original sticker price for the 288 GTOs was? Been searching and can't find any reference.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure the Sports Car Market price is accurate. I purchased mine used from the original owner who claimed the original MSRP was $87K and change. But, this could be because he lived in Southern California and there was a difference in cars destined for the USA. Yes, I know, none where USA legal, but that didn't stop a boat load them being purchased by USA residents.

wow, I remember walking into Walnut Creek Ferrari and they had 2 F-40's there brand new I asked how much and he said $550K each, i replyed take a mil for both? he emphatically said no. I couldnt afford the tax back then but he didnt know that.

If you look at it from an investment stand point the 288 was a great play and the F-40 sucks I wouldnt pay $550K for a new F-40 now.

We sold several and I know they were 85 or less. That was FOB Maranello.
We had a service client that had a friend at the factory and bought his factory direct for dealer cost and was offered 5 the day he picked his up. Nobody wanted them. I wasn't for a few months that they really took off.

By 1985 things had changed for Ferrari GTO pricing. The new price including optional air conditioning and power windows was $125,000USD. That was payable two weeks before picking up your new GTO at the factory. A couple of other numbers to consider: 0 - 60 in 5 seconds flat and the the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds at 112MPH. All this from a 174 cubic inch V8 pushing around a mere 2880 pounds plus driver of course...

RTB: was this the GTO where one of the journalists from CAR? went along for the ride to the factory for the delivery of the GTO? There was a lot of rain on that trip according to the photographs... What color is the interior trim; all black or red inserts in cloth or leather for seats? Thanks!
