1987 or 88. I paid 205 k for it. held it 9 months(put 6000 miles on it) sold it for 220k then they took off 250-300-400-500 I watched it go I think 1 million. ahead of my time again.I never made the big profit on anything I don't hold them long enough.
Wayne From WHOM did you buy it? To WHOM did you sell it? I maintain a very detailed 288 GTO registry but couldn't find your name. What was the license plate? Serial number? Was the car registered in your private name or in the name of a company? Thank you. Marcel Massini
bought it from Ferrari of Atlanta Rick Schuman was salesmans name. they were brokering the car. it belonged to a guy who owned some business abut 50 miles from Atlanta. I can't remember his name but same guy owned a twin turbo/&supercharged Koenig Testarossa a white car. His car and My topless TR were on the cover of a Ferrari club magazine at the time. I didn't keep serrial numbers of all these cars I've owned. I only remembered 2 serial numbers of my dozens of cars. #1012 a mk2 gT-40 AND I THINK csX 3201 THE FIRST STREET COMP 427 COBRA. Really wished I would have kept all the info on my cars...I had some great ones. Think the broker I used to sell the car said it was sold to guy in Arkansas Of all places. Hope that helps you pin it down. I drove it on the streets in Atlanta I assume I registered it there. Would have been my name not a company.
53289 Black interior. Fitted with air conditioning and power windows. 1985 sold new to first owner Buddy Wilkens of Jupiter/FL/USA. Advertised in the September 1986 issue of the "Du Pont Registry" by someone in northern Georgia state (USA) with the given name of Wayne. Mileage claimed to be about 3,000. Asking price 250,000.00 US Dollars. Skiles kept it for 9 months and did 6000 miles in it. March 1987 sold by Skiles for US$ 220000 through Ferrari of Atlanta to somebody in Arkansas/USA. From 1988 to 1993 it was owned by Anthony A. Marnell, an architect in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA). Note varying mileage....... Marcel Massini
I was off on year but come to think of it it was 1986 the year I moved to georgia. But as you can see I'm not a BS type guy. essentially just as I told it. I'm not sure how many miles I put on it though? Looks like maybe the miles turned back before I bought it(?) I took it to car broker on Peachtree not FOA. Maybe they got involved anyhow?
yes first one was a black one bought by Pepsi for Michael Jackson. shot at my home in Atlanta.Put "GTO" wheels on the TR. Only way I could get them From Ferrari was becuase I had a GTO.think they cost me $4800(?). So I go WAY back with Ferrari guys but now I'm a Lamborghini die hard!!!! Funny thing NIMS DILLON owned Ferrari of walnut creek. An Indian (SIKH) and a real crook last I heard he fled the country with the Feds in pursuit. Wonder if they ever recovered him from India? Many folks lost consignment cars and the state SALES TAX money etc....
Yes, Nims Dhillon was VERY active in the late 1980s up until the early 1990s. Remember him very well. Marcel Massini
I personally never had a bad deal but I lived in Alamo (nearby) at the time and I stayed on top of every detail.
Your cut Testarossa is S/N 68405, red with tan leather, delivered on 4 March 1987... Featured on the November, 1987 cover of Sports Car Illustrated... The car was offered for sale, as a spider conversion, by Walnut Creek, in late 1987, with 8,186 miles. Offered again, through the duPont Registry, in November, 1988. From 1988-1993, this car was listed in the FOCUSA rosters as being owned by Nims Dhillon, of Danville, CA.
Wayne, do you have pics of you're previous cars such as the cobra and gt40? Any others would be much appreciated. Its pretty awesome you owned the 288 pretty much just after it was released. Thanks
I photographed the first 288 GTO prototypes mid-June 1983 in the streets of Maranello (see my pix in thread "Ferrari Factory Photos 25 Years Ago"). The official debut was at Geneva on Tuesday 28 February 1984. I was there. Wayne S. bought #53289 on 27 June 1986. That's 2 years and four months after the official debut. I know it's all relative, but I don't think it was "pretty much just after it was released". Marcel Massini
