Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I have a couple of Factory posters of the 288 GTO that have a fly sitting on the side mirror.

Supposedly, Enzo freaked out about this poster (to be displayed in dealerships) and ordered a re-shoot.

There is clearly a "Fly" on the side mirror.....

    Any info would be appreciated......

YIKES! I can see why Il Commendatore wouldn't want that in dealerships!

was it the fly, or the horrible door panel gaps?

I can picture what Enzo probably said when he saw the photo:

"Ah...very nice, very nice. I love the angle, the lighting, the...WTF IS THAT!?!?!?" :D

At least one of the 70's Ducati 750SS's of great fame and now relative fortune had a fly clear coated onto the gas tank.

It has been a long time since this was visited, so for fun, I am still curious about this poster.

The door is not latched and the mirror is not only sagging, (which it cant really) it is missing the parting line part way up where it can rotate on its base.

In other words it is not a photo in my opinion but rather some nature of artwork.

    Story sounds good though.

It is the Ferrari factory poster that could be bought back in the day at the dealerships.

I have had these since the 90’s.

Does it have a print number?
How does the entire poster look like?

In dealers we sold a lot of stuff Ferrari had nothing to do with. I was in a dealer at the time and never laid eyes on one.
Like Marcel said, Id like to know the Ferrari number on it.

I am out of town but will try and get a better picture when I return home and see if there is a print number on it.

Agreed, I also find your point about the side mirror very relevant. In today’s world photoshop would be an easy explanation, but this is old so now I am even more curious. It came from Ferrari of Houston, so I am not sure what could have been available as a source back then, but possible. Back in that time period, they had the Silver 288 GTO sitting in their small showroom for some time.

Once I get home, maybe we will know more, including if it is just an old piece of trash but a fun one.

So I am guessing this isn’t a “Factory” poster, as there is no factory number on it. It has a small logo in the bottom corner that has a MP.

If it isn’t factory, what is being photoed, a prototype of sorts?

I don't think its a photo. Ever seen a Cleworth painting? If it is it is photoshopped. Trying to make a 308 look like a 288. No way even a prototype or a factory mockup would put on a mirror that crooked.

Aside from its inaccuracy the mirror does not have the crisp detail the widow frame does. It is heavily manipulated in some way.

Whatever it is, it is not a photograph of a GTO. And since Ferrari had plenty of real ones at their disposal its very hard to believe this is in anyway a product of Ferrari.

Several old clients have the originals hanging in their homes because they owned the subject of the work. One being the black Gullwing. In another life he was a client.
To my knowledge most were in the San Francisco Bay Area. I think he met Cleworth in The Haight Ashbury, liked his work so much he commissioned the Gullwing painting and a bunch of friends jumped on the bandwagon. The series of car paintings resulted.
Had not seen the Bel Air before though. Very cool.

I have had this poster in my garage since the 90’s, I don’t think it is a manipulated image from a digital perspective.

Once I saw it wasn’t factory, I rolled it back up. I will take a picture of the whole poster when I get home mid-week.
