The definitive article is written in Cavallino #45 - June/July 1988. It is a very humorous article by Rick Busenkell.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to put the article in here, however I will quote a short passage in which he is comparing a Testarossa to a "certain car". For 2 points, which will be added to the score in "know your Ferrari" thread, what is the ???? car he is talking about:

".... If any car costing $120,000 can be said to be a bargain, the Testarossa is it.
It is the world's premier exoticar, capable of doing anything anyone could reasonably
want an exoticar to do, and all with the temperament of the sweetest pus*y-cat.
And I might add with beauty and elegance befitting its station. (I trust that we can all
agree that the ????? ????, often classed together with the Testarossa by such witless
fools as magazine editors, can be dismissed as a bad joke, an exercise in metallic masochism
and masturbation, a fit conveyance only for those afflicted with terminal exhibitionism,
and in which a person with any civilized sensibilities could feel comfortable only if wearing a clown suit! ) ..."

He makes some very good points in the (long) article, and implies that the F40 was the beginning of the "moral corruption" of Ferrari in starting to build, ever increasing numbers of "limited edition" specials, with no point in mind (other than Ferraris bank balance). Really what IS the point of the FXX !!

This little bit is for Gil :) - quoting the article " .. to my eyes the GTO looks like a 308 overdosed on steroids, while the F40 looks like Ferrari's answer to the 1969 Plymouth Superbird. ..." - HehHehHeh

Another article of note is EVO of February 2004, which compares the 288, F40, F50 and Enzo.
Unfortunately this is done in the "post-modern" style of journalese, typical of mass-production journals - hyperbole heaped on hyperbole. Photos are good.

The panel fit and general quality of finish of the 2 cars are pretty similar too.
Wouldn't stop me buying # 74045 or # 90001 I must admit. Two of the best racing Ferrari GT's of the modern era.

Is the handle at the back for picking it up at the wreckers and throwing it in the car squasher.

    The F40?

Strangely, the Pontiac thingy is "worth" decent money these days.
I can't understand the whole muscle car market- they are all OHOS as far as I can tell.
