Well, how often do they come up? Do you have another set available to compare the price of this set with?

It seems to me that GTO wheels are worth whatever someone is comfortable paying to get them. If the seller wants $2200 for a set of 4 genuine 288 GTO wheels, it sounds like a bargain to me.

Now thats the problem.. They don't come up often an I don't have another set to compare price with ;) Therefore I'm asking in this section where its a posibility that people have bought it before :)

Do you know if its a genuin number to look for to find out if its genuine 288 wheels?

All i know is that its speedline gto wheels with centerlock and 16" :)

    Thanks fo your input Joe

    Cheers

I think what Joe is trying to say is that there's no "market value" for an item like this. There's no telling whether $2200 is fair or $4200 is fair. If you want/need a set of original 288 wheels and there's only one set available - the price is the price. If you're asking whether or not it seems "reasonable" - that's also subjective. That being said it seems reasonable since it's a rare item and aftermarket wheels for a Ferrari can run twice as much or more these days. It's likely you can't go wrong by buying them even if you decided you wanted to resell them one day. This is assuming that they don't look like that spare wheel someone bought a while back that was all corroded. :)

Exactly. Thanks, couldn't have explained myself any better.

If a set of 4 had sold on the open market within the last 6 months, then the resultant price of that sale would have established the market. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened.

    As an aside:

    http://www.tawvehicle.com/

can get any wheel existent manufactured in any alloy one wants (racing or street).

Generally the cost is about 15K for tooling (assuming they don't already have it and they have it for many Ferrari Wheels) and about 2K per wheel. They are Authorised Campagnolo and Boranni.

I service a couple of these cars regularly-one of which has been tracked extensively in last 10-15 yeaqrs, and can tell you that(can't remember which one)either the fronts, or the rears, have not been available NOS for over 10 years(I want to say rears are NOT available, while the fronts are???)

The fronts-at that time-were just under 2K each from FNA, while the rears were listed out at 3400.00 each....
no centers, no hubs, no stems.....

These are UN IQUE wheels, be careful of imposters, look carefully.
And no, they were never an option on TRs in my experience, I was a first time buyer for a GTO, and can tell you that wheels were available ONLY to owners.
For a period of time it became chic to put them onto TRs, then as GTO owners were unable to get any...policy shifted...not too unlike the F-40LM wheel issues...
Others will beg to differ in thier own experiences, I can only comment on my own.

My understanding from a 288 GTO owner who also bought a new Testarossa in 1985 is that you could order the GTO wheels for the Testarossa at point of delivery.

122454 would be the front wheels. They should state 122466 10,00"J x 16" E=58 and 122454 8.00"J x 16" E=32.6. (The information for both front and rear wheels is stamped on each wheel.) E is the offset. If I remember right, the offset is different between an OEM TR and GTO wheel. I remember GTO owners fitting TR wheels for track duty (they were much cheaper) on their GTOs and they looked a bit funny. I believe it was because of the offset. But, just check your TR and see if the front and rear offset is the same as the GTO offset.

$2200 is cheap for real GTO wheels that are not damaged. That's the key, the OEM Speedline wheel is pretty soft and gets bent easily. I even have a NOS one as a spare that is bent more than my original wheel that I still use on the car.

    Steve

FWIW, that's a lower price than the 17" OEM (optional) Mondial Speedlines that were offered to me. I think "genuine 288 GTO wheels" should add a certain amount of premium pricing ;)

I was involved in putting 288 wheels on many new TR's. It was very frowned upon by Ferrari. They are a direct fit but as always Ferrari discourages any type of modification to the cars. Ferrari had a very strict policy that all 288 parts orders had to be accompanied by a 288 VIN. As a dealer that sold several 288's we had VINs to use but Ferrari became aware of the practice and sent official letters to the dealers telling them to stop the practice. It was not allowed....it happened a lot.

getting them refinished is no biggie, you could even do it yourself if you wanted. but you may (and prob will) lose the lettering in the process. you could always have it redone as well.

That said, I would think $2200 to be a bargain assuming the center caps aren't too terrably hard to locate. If they are hard to find, it renders the wheels somewhat useless until you can get something made to go in there.

Note: most wheel shops will strip and polish a set of wheels for around $200 or so. I'm not sure how the cost will vary with only polishing the lips and getting a sandblast & respray on the centers.

But again, if you wanted to, you could do this yourself for around $50 or less and a weekend. All you need is:

Wet sand paper - 1000 grit or higher for final
    Mothers Mag polish
    cloth's or rags for polishing
    Paint
the loss of your fingertips from wet sanding so much.
