Considering switching from a 992 GT3 to a 296 and I do hit track somtimes. I wonder if anyone have any experiences on how loud the 296 exhaust is and if it is going to pass hopefully a 92db day at Laguna?

    TIA

I just ran my 296 GTB at Lime Rock Park on a muffler required day which I believe has an 89 dB limit. No issues.

How did you enjoy the car on the track? It looks like you have the AF car, that would be ideally suited for the closed corse

The 296 was great. Maybe you're familiar with the track, if so just skip this part. Lime Rock is fantastic - only 7 turns so they're very easy to get familiar with but some are quite hard to truly master. That said, it isn't the best place to push to the limits with an expensive street ride. Corners such as the uphill have walls on exit that will bite if the car isn't placed correctly or isn't straight when it gets light and regains grip over the top. I kept it at maybe 7/10ths partially to not get in trouble and partially to not take too much life out of the tires and brakes.

The engine noise is spectacular both inside and out (the latter, so I'm told). The car pulls harder than anything I've been in maybe save a right seat hot lap in an SF90 which felt similar. Without a hugely fast entry onto the straight I was able to hit 150 before braking. In qualifying mode I would start and finish a 20 lap session with 100% battery. Lime Rock has some high speed trail braking or maintenance throttle corners so that probably helps with regeneration.

As far as future 296 track usage I plan to mostly use it as a backup on an HPDE day when a dedicated track car has some mechanical issue, as they're bound to. That's not a ding on the 296 - once you go full race car (slicks, harness, roll cage, etc), street cars become expensive toys on track. It doesn't stop me from taking every single one I own on track but it definitely limits how hard I push them or how many laps they get.

Love your comments! I’m about to track mine and I really wonder about sound with the mandatory windows down. I feel it’s going to be on the quiet side…

I think the 296 would be the perfect car for me if I could increase the volume about 30% over stock.

The windows down requirement does take away some of the fun but what is left is still a blast. Here's a couple of vids:

GoPro (I should have adjusted the contrast but the audio is better being mounted on the back glass)
    Catalyst (Better video, worse audio)

My fastest lap was about a 1:03. I imagine someone willing to push to the limits could shave that down to 0:55 or less so that tells you how little I was really pushing in the corners.

left front was fine. I could probably do another 5+ similar days before I’d need new tires.

Solution: buy 50 296s so you can beg eligibility to buy a Ferrari without any windows.

Great videos! Yeah it's pretty obvious that with the windows down the sound is going to suffer, especially on the fast straights. But I do like the engine note in this car when the wind noise doesn't block it.

Well, FWIW, I'm about to install these 2 products on my GTS:

    1) https://capristoexhaust.com/product/e2e-exhaust-remote-kit-c-for-electric-valves/
Must admit I'm really uncertain about this one, but the similar product from Forza Componenti works really well on my 458 and my Scud. I know they're totally different engines and exhaust, but for the price of it, I figured I'd try it.

    2) https://capristoexhaust.com/product/ferrari-296-250-cell-sport-cat-downpipes/
More hopeful on this one, for obvious reasons, keeping in mind that I'm only trying to increase the volume, not necessarily change it completely - like a $23k complete Novitec system would do.

I'm going to record several videos of the before and after, and I'll report back!

Excited to see and hear! Do they expect a cel? I forget whether it removes the GPF or not.

    1) Capristo confirmed the 250 cell cats won't trigger the CEL. They do have the 100 cell model, and those WILL trigger it. I'll need to confirm all this myself in a week or so once I get my car back.

    2) It does NOT remove the GPF as far as I know, but I'm not 100% certain. This is why I'm not expecting it to be mind blowing result. I'm looking to increase the stock sound about 30% or so. Let's see...

Here is a clip I put together today of the stock exhaust, from different angles. Once I get the Capristo products installed, hopefully there'll be a difference and I'll record new videos to compare. What a car... I adore it!

Yeah, Capristo used to offer 200 cell, but they recently swapped to 250 because cel warnings would not trigger. I’m considering them for the speciale without valves even, so interested to hear!!

I’d say it needs an X pipe. That may be it;)

Are you following the 812 thread about a guy with the 250cel not throwing a code and not needed any module for the 812gts? Could be a game changer.

I don’t believe I have not read that thread.

I do have a full Novitec system in mine and it’s F1-like, but it comes with 100 cell cats and it’s a bit too loud and it requires the techtronic module to avoid the CEL.

The fact is that in the 812 changing the cats is what really makes a difference. I tried just changing the muffler and an x pipe and the difference was insignificant.

This is a great video. And the car sounds wonderful stock, esp compared to recent v8s. If the capristo doesn't throw a cel and retains GPF, it's such a no brainer. Can't wait for my car, and can't wait for your video!

I did and I like it! Net, net, it increases the volume and the 'throatiness' of the sound about 30%. But I'm about to get this other product that I think not only will increase it 3db with OEM exhaust, but also looks cool - I'll get it in black (not gold):

    https://capristoexhaust.com/product/ferrari-296-capristo-twin-tailpipe-carbon-conversion-for-oem-or-capristo-exhaust/

I will record more videos soon, but for now... get this! I tracked it yesterday and it was absolutely MIND BLOWING. The power, the grip, the brakes... UNREAL. I hit 160mph on the straight at ThunderHill East - Most people don't hit 140...

    Turn it up!
