All of the 296's I have seen (that have actually been driven) with the standard exhaust seem to be pretty discolored. Has anyone figured out a solution to this, or is the general consensus to leave it alone?

On my GTS spec I was thinking of moving to the black ceramic tip so that this wouldn't be noticeable, but then my thinking is that the whole port will basically blend in with the rear and not be an attractive design element.

All the dealers are recommending black. It still gets dirty but it’s not as bad.

If you use Gtechniq All Metal Polish it will clean up the standard silver painted finisher quite easily as long as you do not let the soot build up and permeate the finish. I had the silver finisher on my GTB and used this to clean it. It works really well. I tried a couple of other brands but they didn't work nearly as well.

I have used the metal polish and then finished it with Gtechniq’s ceramic detail spray, C2 Ceramic Sealant. Great results.

If your body color choice is black (or any dark color, because of the contrast it will catch your eyes) I can not recommend the standard exhaust - all I have seen, no matter how good treated look ugly very soon. And you will notice it, because it is visible from far away.

There is no solution, switch to the black ceramic one.

It seems the black ceramic can discolour with a light stain . The silver insert has a rusty tea type stain . Neither should occur . Ferrari should look at this , I am going to black however I am still concerned .

@gzachary--Does this restore to full black or does the ceramic finish erode over time? Thanks for your advice.

A little Gtechniq and some elbow grease after every use seems to do the trick on my silver finish tips.

Sorry I really do not feel like doing this every time I park . My Porsche has never had a problem , nor did my previous AMG. Yes the exhaust is different however I have never had to wipe a surround after each use to ensure it looks presentable . This is poor form from the Scuderia .

Can you use the G Technic on the black ceramic when it discolors? Is there another option for the black that should be considered? I'm sure I'm over a year way from having to worry, but never too soon!

Does anybody know how to remove the exhaust cover? It does not appear connected to the exhaust pipes. Thinking about having it powder coated.

Unfortunately you have to remove the entire bumper. I just had mine replaced and it was 4 hours of labor for the dealer to do. It is secured from the inside and no way to get to it from the outside (I tried everything before giving up). Btw the powder coating will come off which is why I replaced mine with an OEM black one.

You just confirmed what the dealer told me except that it took them 6 hours. Looking at the car carefully from below (I have a lift in the garage), it too confirms this. I've removed several Porsche bumpers but am not about to attempt it on a Ferrari (this is actually our 5th one and I took the diffuser down several times on a 488GTB). Really don't know what is the alternative but to spend about $2,800 (including tax) for the part and perhaps another $1,000 for labor. For now, it looks fine but the car only has 117 miles on it (as of Sunday).

I am glad I did it. The silver one looked out of place and The powder coat didn’t take. I finally went all in with the OEM black. Here was what the powder coat looked like after a few drives. It looks much better now.

Interesting. Just have to absorb the thought of laying out $400k two weeks ago and now an additional 1 percent.

Can anyone clarify as to how they clean the black ceramic version? Same G Techniq or another trick? Obviously even the stains on the black are unsightly on a $450K+ machine.

I just wipe mine off every few drives with a towel. Still looks brand new with no stains.

Getting to the bolts holding the exhaust tip - I believer there are three bolts holding it in place. If you drop the bottom diffuser, can they be reached without removing the bumper/

I went for the black option, and after 3000 miles, there were no issues and no cleaning other than snow foam.

However, I had the exhaust coated with Gtechniq Crystal Serum, which I guess made the difference.

The photos are straight after a spirited drive.

Could there be a difference in fuels? I use Shell V-Power as a rule, but I don't really notice any performance difference.
