I think most (or at least many) people who own supercars got there through a combination of hard work and intellect; at least the ones I know. My objective was to try and understand the Ferrari warranty as it relates to the battery. I don't think I insinuated it was not a solid technology; I was just doing my due diligence before committing to a hybrid supercar, especially as there was unclear and often times conflicting information. That said, I believe we can all agree to this:

The Ferrari 296 GTB’s hybrid battery is among the most protected and well-supported in the luxury sports car market, thanks to state-of-the-art engineering, multiple layers of warranty, and proactive replacement schemes. However, like all technology of this nature, there is no absolute guarantee of indefinite performance—regular maintenance, occasional use, and correct storage are still critical for maximal reliability. Ferrari’s approach is about reducing risk, not rendering failure impossible.

I feel I understand the Extended warranty situation much better now; i.e., it is bumper-to-bumper, it includes a battery replacement at year 8 whether it needs it or not, and furthermore, one is legally protected (in the U.S.) against failure and/or severe degradation through year 8, even if you don't have the Extended warranty. I'm good now, and I won't beat the dead horse anymore :)

Yay, because you were bumming out my excitement for you about getting one of these if you do...

A couple things from my perspective of being a recent buyer and first time Ferrari purchase in March, it was 2022 Demo model 4000 miles.

I found the hardest thing was finding a spec I liked. Odds are most have been on the market a while but when you find what you like you can lose it by waiting a few days thinking you have it.... as I did on one. . I couldn't do reds or flash since it not my thing even though some look fantastic. Theres a ton out there but not alot with certain specs you might want. I'm in CA and ended up flying to St. Louis, but the 3 dealers I approached were all super helpful, not like when I went into F-Car dealers about 10 years ago. But you have to show them you are ready to buy, then they are pretty transparent. I was blunt and them them I needed the warranty to cover me out past 2030 since it was a 2022... and they put on a few years without any pushback or cost, and it wasn't the Power 15 warranty, it was the Factory bumper to bumper... so they can do that, and it goes with the Car so if I sold it I could say it still has warranty out past 2030.. So you can negotiate on the warraty that comes with the Car, they don't pay that price you pay so some might be will to give it free or split costs with your in most cases.

We are a lithium battery company, but I was not worried about the Hybrid battery since it has a general warranty with it and it does have to last a certain amount of time legally. More importantly, Ferrari, is going "all-in" on Hybrids, so if they screw up here, they are going to alienate most of their base, as well as newcomers like me and possibly deal with a massive overload of cars in the services bays that they have to pay to fix if they screw this up. So it had better work darn well, but additionally all the systems will be based on similar systems at Ferrari for cost reductions so there will be sharing of important parts across the product range.... again , if they blow it it will mean blowing it across all most their newer products, and that would be a BIG risk. At least that is what logic tell me if you're manufacturing high end products.

Exactly. No guarantees and this looks like a great risk/ reward. All high performance cars are prone to breaking as they are engineered to push physical limits. This is nothing new. I see no reason why this car will be worse than prior ones, and actually expect it to be better because Ferrari has never made cars this well and there is a history of hybrid longevity. The FUD has resulted in a pricing bargain for one of Ferrari’s best mid engine cars of all time. IMO.

The car is so, so good I almost feel as if it cannot get any better- period.

That’s super helpful, and I appreciate all the insight and advice. I’m even more excited about the 296 after sorting out the warranties. Similarly, I remember over a decade ago being very turned off by my local dealer—glad to hear things have changed. Also, I agree, I love the bright colors, but I’ve had 40 out of 50 cars in the silver and grey palette, and I just can’t do the flash (I think about it, but…).

My plan is to find a spec I want, get some numbers, then fly to where ever it is. I’m pretty sure it be out-of-state and transported back home. Again, thanks for the advice.

Hi, first off...love your batteries, we have 9. Secondly, do you recall the name of the warranty you had them put on your Ferrari? I know you said it was the facotry bumper to bumper, but was there an actual name for this warranty? Would be helpful knowing prior to speaking with the dealer....

Thanks for going with our Antigravity stuff!

What I got was an extention of the "Manufactures Warranty" which is the original warranty the Cars come with when you buy them new, or used when the car is only 2-3 years old and still has some of this original "Manufactuers Warranty" on it , as most 296s still have on them. They just extend that one, and the Hybrid one for you if you bargin for it. So you can ask to extend both, and they are seperate so make sure you understand that. I also stated I wanted that in writing, but they gave me the document on the car during the deal that showed they had extended it... because it linked in the system to the car you buy. So I was good after seeing that it was all legit. So its the manufacturers warranty that you want since that covers the car in total not just the powertrain and major components like some of the other they offer like the Power 15/16. But I'm not sure those other warranties come into play unless you buy something that is out of the Manufactuers Warranty...Also, I think most the 296s will still have the Manufacturers warranty on them so you can just try to bargin for that extention on it and the Hybrid part of the Warranty.

I know you can also buy these extensioins of the manufactures warranties, but I just assumed they baked in some of that cost and would do it, plus they must get it very cheap compared to the retail cost of the extention they say costs a few thousand. But as I recall the Car has to be a Ferrari Certified Car for them to offer the extention because it has to have passed their program which this one did since it was their demo. So make sure about that also since if they have a consignment 296 it might not have passed the Ferrari CPO thing.

Lastly keep in mind I was buying a 2022, and I know first year Cars can have issues, so I was pretty firm with them about this being something that was important to me... but as I said they were super cool and seemed to utterly trust the Car and I aslo new that if it had 4000 miles, so if they had any issues, then they would have been worked out for sure being its their demo car. So I was comfortable with it all. My point here being if your buying a 2024/5, you might have plenty of warranty and not really need to get more unless you just want a bit more.

I keep thinking about that. The next gen will have more power, aero, etc.. But can it be more fun?
