That would be quite impressive if they can make it 6db louder. Thanks for sharing. How did it sound when revved or perhaps the difference b/w the GTB and speciale in case they started both up to compare?
It could be 5mm from whatever point they are measuring from, but the front end could also be a little longer, and thus, gives the impression that its a bit lower than 5mm.
Thats a great point/ question. My guess is the sense of greater lowness is from the (likely) longer front end.
I know about building mass production vehicles, and Ferrari may have a way to control the build tolerance by + - 5mm. But I'm a bit surprised if they can. That would be difficult at best for a front fascia height.
Not sure why offering both implies some unsavory concession. Why not let customers select the suspension that will perform best on the stretches of road and track where the car will be used?
Perhaps 5mm was used not in a literal sense, but more of a general sense of saying its just a teeny tiny bit lower?
I think plenty of people would be interested in a non-hybrid version. Thats not a knock on hybrids. But lighter with a more organic torque curve has its own appeal.
Verde Nurburgring looks a little less intense in real life. Think more "Verde medio" than "verde jewel". Thanks for sharing those images. Someone mentioned at another show they disabled the front trunk (frunk) release. Was that the case here to? Everything else seems accessible! No view of the build specification plate...
Precision for sure the 296 is amazing and makes other cars feel sluggish side to side, even vs. 991 3rs, 4rs, Lotus. The lightness and lack of feel on 296 means for me 4rs and Evora GT are great complements to switch off between with 296. Maybe the Speciale will be different (at that) but I doubt it.
I had a 4RS- Car was much firmer than my 296 GTB AF and didn’t feel as nimble either. I also prefer the sound of my 296 over the 4RS. The 4RS didn’t feel special and seemed relatively over priced (I bought my 296 with 1700 miles for $150k off sticker). The 4RS is still a great car but the use case was too narrow for me because of the suspension. At $150K- I would feel different.
Au contraire, it makes perfect sense. One version is for those that want road usability (lifter and bumpy road mode), the other is for those that want the optimum track set up (I guess being lighter is also part of that). The did the same with the SF90 XX.
It’s a great car but as surmised by others, not sure it’s worth the squeeze if you already have your dream spec 296 AF. They’ve quoted 20% more down force than the standard car, wondering what that is over AF. I’m a hybrid convert or I should say a 296 convert but I would still love a 296 challenge street car!
I think they both sound great but different but that's all super personal. I'd encourage you to try a 25 4RS (even w buckets) if ride is the main thing but it'll definitely be behind on agility vs 495 - the only Porsche that is almost (but still not) as good as 296 are 992 GT3/RS or something wickedly customized.
