2V Timing Belt Change (Tips) I used the following procedure to replace timing belts on a 1982 2V Set engine to PM1-4 mark on flywheel and cam marks visible on top side on cams (Stamped on cam next to back side of cam pulley) Place gauge 95971198 on front and rear cams to check cam alignment. If cams are misaligned set them now or after new belt is on. Lock cams from turning with cam lock tool. Loosen and remove old tension pulley Remove old timing belt Install new timing belt Install new tension pulley snug and tighten Remove cam lock tool. Place gauge 95971198 on front and rear cams to check alignment. Rotate crank pulley twice around to PM1-4 mark on flywheel and recheck alignment. (I did this step twice) (Tip) Gauge 95971198 checks cam alignment per Ferrari SB 10-3 (7-10-80) - The gauge is available from a few suppliers for $500 to $700 or you can make one from a small L ruler for $1.29 (Tip) Cam lock tools with alignment marks are available from a few suppliers for $150 to $250 or you can use a hockey puck $1.98 and screw assy $0.76 (Cut puck in half reverse halves drill 1/4' hole and use 4" 10/24 screw and wing nut place between cam pulleys then snug wing nut to prevent cam movement) Gauge 95971198 (Or L ruler) has the alignment marks.
I've used home made wooden cam sprocket locks, but as a former HS and college hockey player I have to say I like the puck idea a lot.
Thanks for the write up, I wasn't even aware of the existence of a cam alignment tool - does it simply measure that the alignment marks on the cams are at exactly 12 o'clock? If not, how do you create the correct markings on a home-made tool?
Remember, this procedure only keeps the cams in the very near, SAME, position, post belt change. The marks on the cams and caps are merely "assembly marks." They only indicate that you are in the "Ball Park;" pistons and valves will not meet. They may in no way (very often DO NOT) indicate that the cams are actually set correctly. Those marks can be MANY degrees off. ONLY pulling the valve covers and actually going thru the pain of checking valve lash and indexing them can ensure that.

It's funny, I had the hockey puck idea too about 3 years ago. Never got to try it out. I actually bought one of the junior or practice pucks or something as it was a little softer and I thought it would "grip" into the teeth of the sproket a little better.
No issue. Just didn't want some newbie to think that is all there was to it and their car would run perfectly. Cheers!
