Many writers have said the 3.4 liter engine had more gremlins than the 3.2 liter. Is this the experience out there? Is it the electrical system or everything? The t seems better overall including power but this seems to be eclipsed by lots of little things going wrong. Was the 3.2 just simpler?

The 3.2 motors used old tech ignition and fuel injection and are quite reliable. The 3.4 went to modern engine management system which allowed engineers to raise compression and power while keepng emissions down. However, in the case of 3.4 motors, the systems have proven to be more problem prone than the 3.2. The motor itself is pretty robust though the single, serpintine cam belt which requires motor removel to change is a big minus.

I think the major service on the 3.4 is probably the biggest difference between the two. I learned pretty quickly that the easiest solution for the electrical gremlins on the 3.4 is to keep the car on a trickle charger. If you don't have a fully charged battery, you will have problems.

Just gave mine a nice run up the Angeles Crest this evening. It was pure driving pleasure.

Also, camseals tend to leak a bit more - and alternator problems are common on the 3.4. (You need to upgrade the Delco to a Nippon unit). If you need the extra power, it's (almost) worth the aggro for the 3.4, with the engine sitting lower too. Both 3.2 and 3.4 are great fun units and won't dissappoint.

I'd agree, although the extra urge of the 3.4 is well worth any hassle and by now all the gremlins should have been sorted out
