Hey the sub-frame is rust free.
I know! Its had some pretty good rust prevention. It'll probably clean up pretty nice once its washed.
Well there you have it the bad and the ugly very little good so far! Amazing what goes on down under.
That is the first black TB and intake manifold I have seen on a QV. Odd seeing someone paint them black. Usually its straight to the red rattle can
Robert Since I have an 83 I look forward to this thread. What will be the gain in HP? Why 3.4 vs. the 3.5? Don
Good question. We have a few possible avenues with the combinations I've suggested which impacts output. The carbed 3.4's are a solid 100hp more than a 235hp 308 engine. The QV has the potential to surpass the carbed 2V engines.
Rob, if you need a Ferrari fix let me know you take mine out for drive. Watching this post closely. Good luck on the rebuild. I'm sure it will be great.
My guess is money. Really looking forward to this! I love my QV but wonder what it would be like with a 3.4 in the back.
One of the 3.5's I know of (there may be a few variations that im unaware of) have a larger bore and shorter stroke than the combination were using on the 3.4s. A dyno sheet from a 3.5 showed higher peak HP numbers in QV form (not by much) and another with 10HP less vs the 3.4 2V carbed versions but less torque. What I like about the 3.4 is you can use stock liners and stock head gaskets, there's nothing exotic or redesigned. Custom liners, block modifications and custom head gaskets add an element of risk that im not super comfortable with unless its for myself and tested long term. I would love to run a larger bore (and longer stroke) in the future and I will but the cost will spiral out of control and ill experiment on myself first.
That's what I wanted to hear. When it is time to tear mine down I want to go in this direction but the simplest possible. I am good with a lot of "stock" items if it means giving up just a few extra hp. Just seems easier and more dependable all around with plenty of extra power and torque over stock. This is good news
Plus from the non technical side: it adds a whole hell of a lot of grins when you stop the pedals. Night and day from a stock engine!
Rob, I know you are excited about this project. I can't wait to see the result! Remember, the 308 engine was basically the basis for the F40 so it's not too late to consider a twin turbo Will you still be on the east coast when the car is done? I want a ride! Kevin
Robert, I know this is going too far but, what do you think of this sequential Geartronics Paddleshift kit? Anyway, with or without it, your car is going to be great. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Paddle shift and twin turbos may be the next time around Coolant hose from the front of the car to the rear head is oil soaked and as soft as over-cooked pasta, it was probably the size of rad hose under pressure on the trip up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

That is super cool! No doubt Robert would be the only one at cars & coffee with a system like that! ;-)
I'm in the same mindset! BTW, this is already a great thread and I can't wait to see the progress! Definitely know that my engine looks like this - I planned to use some of the rainy season here in Portland to clean it up a bit, but you can only do so much with the engine in the car. Newman/Crowndog - are you planning to leave the bottom-end alone?
