No matter what happens, next year there will be three champions on the grid: FA, KR and whoever wins this season. What's the most number of champions on the grid in last 20 years or so? What/when is the record number of champs on the grid in the post-1950 era? I'm guessing sometime in the 70s?
Nah definitely the early/mid 60's, one of the most competitive periods of F1. Had Graham Hill, Clark, Brabham, Phil Hill, Surtes, Moss (almost a champion) and later Hulme, Rindt (), etc. Pete
How about 1986: Jones, Piquet, Lauda, Rosberg and Prost, with Senna and Mansell in the field but not yet champions, so 5 champions, 2 future champions. Least number, 1994 post May 1, no champions on the grid.
