what am I looking at for a set (non repos)
you just have to send a ton of bucks to me and I will ship you the best 16" rim set on the planet... ciao
Genuine 16" QV wheels are expensive. In my opinion, not worth the large difference in cost as compared to the readily available replicas. Are you looking for something different? How about my set of 16" period appropriate modular Gotti wheels which are available for cheap. Center section is currently gloss black as you can see. Easy DIY to paint them a different color if you prefer. Thanks - DM (in suburb of Columbus) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a set of Cromodora 16" that I keep for spare: three of them were removed from the car after three years (means 1986) and the last one (a rear one) is a NOS (I paid 2 k for just that). All four were never repainted and are undamaged (one of them is, as said, new untouched: it never got a tire and spent his life closed in a box on a dealership shelf). If one day anyone wants to pay what they deserve, I'm here. ciao
I think these days a genuine set of 16" QV wheels would probably run you around $4k. The Superformance replicas are a great alternative for around $850 or so. I have them on my car and am very happy with them. I think a lot of people are running those.
IIRC original 16" QV wheels are magnesium/alloy compound. Never made a 100% magnesium wheel. $4K was the number a couple of years ago.
Thank you, I did not know that. Now I understand why my 16's have no magnesium markings yet still "bubble" when exposed to vinegar.
Chas, just buy the replicas if it's for driving. If for show, they were never on a 77 anyway so if you're changing for better handling with better tires the superformance are fine. I would not spend 5K on 16 rims for my car at this point in time. When I got my car in '01 I looked for 6 months, they wetre $1800-$3000k asking. Everytime I found a set of 16s I was a few mins too late and got tired of driving on TRX tires, so went with the superformance and never looked back. TRXs are in the garage with perfect 20 year old tires. Will be part of the sale, when it moves on. Drive the car and enjoy it, a buddy has a 77 GTB and they handle a bit better than a GTS because of the rigidity, it's so obvious at the depth of the rockers what ferrari had to do to the GTS.
Owned 84 GTB QV I am now and 85 Euro GTS QV. Granted, that GTB will be more rigid for obvious reasons but believe most of the comments about drivability differences have more to do with worn out suspension components and steering rack’s on 30 -year-old cars. Inless you’re a hard-core racer ( probably should have picked a different model ) this is really a non issue. Beautiful car Chas!
I had the 16" repro on my blue 308 but I replaced them with the OEM trx rims. I sold the repro, as their weight is almost twice than the OEM ones and (in my opinion) a repro set doesn't look great on an excellent car like my one. All new tires work great on a 308, trx too: The only problem they have is the cost. ciao
Totally agree. I have reproduction 16“ On my car currently and the OEM wheels stacked sitting in the corner. OEM just look so much better on the car .
Yeah, I believe that is the current ask. Buddy sold a set 2 years ago for $3,500 and they needed to be refurbished as the finish was bubbling for the 3rd time (his painter was a moron). He would have given me a smoking deal, but I was past them. I'm driving my Boxer way more than my 308 now.
I've finally posted photos of my 16" wheels for sale at: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/genuine-original-16-magnesium-speedline-wheels-for-308.588483/
1) they should have the raised lettering Ferrari 7.00 J x 16" front and Ferrari 8.00 J x 16" rear 2) Rear wheel is different from the front one while repro has the same design. 3) repro weight is almost twice than OEM one. ciao Image Unavailable, Please Login
