    Hey guys
    Just a quick question on 308 2V cam seals.

    I've read several entries about replacing the cam seals which I'm doing right now. My question is should I use any sealer on the cam seal housing to head/cam cover surface. The original ones, which I'm replacing now, never gave any trouble so I'm inclined to clean the surfaces well to remove all oil and rely on the compression fit between the cam cover and head. I read somewhere that some guys put dimples on the cam cover and head cam seal surface to insure the don't "pop" out. Is this necessary? Any other recommendations? At this point I'm not planning on using any sealer on except at the corners where the cam cover gaskets intersect with the cam seal. BTW the front cam cover which had never been off had no sealer anywhere.

    No need to punch the cam covers just make sure the mating surface on both the seal and engine are clean and dry. A small dab of sealant on the corners where the gasket meets the seal is not essential but highly recommended with little to be lost in doing so

    Happy father's day.

    Was thinking about this last night and realized the air pump drive pulley still installed, which of course, makes it impossible to slide the seal over the cam. I have already removed rear bank intake cam but not the exhaust cam. Now I have a question about air pump pulley / cam drive pulley. As I don't have the special socket it takes to remove the air pump pulley I assume I'll have to remove the cam drive pulley on the rear exhaust cam. Can I use an impact gun to remove the cam pulley bolt with the cam out of the car or should I reinstall the belt and lock the pulleys to remove the exhaust cam pulley? Or is there some other recommended way.

    I seem to remember the cam drive pulley bold has O rings that prevent oil leakage from the cam oil passages. Does anyone know the size as I would like to replace them if I take the pulley off.

    There appear to be several dowel pin holes on the cam pulley. I assume they are for indexing the cam? Does anyone know the offset for each dowel pin hole?

    My technique is to use a use a very small amount of Hondabond after solvent cleaning surface.

    I just did this to my GTBi, didn’t dimple the engine, just used a little hondabond to seal the gasket ends where they meet the seal. I read here somewhere if you use sealant all around it pushes the seals out when tightening.
    There are some nice threads on the indexing holes, do a search as it is quite important. Mark the cam and pulleys before disassembly so you can get them back on latter without messing up the timing. You can get them out with an air wrench but
    when retightening it is very important to have the pistons on that bank midway down the cylinders (opposite bank on tdc) so you are safe in case anything happens (like jumping a couple of theeth)
    I would use original orings if possible, not worth the risk of an oil leak onto the belts, and the possible outcome of this.
