A very quick question please: Are non-ABS 328 16” wheels the same pattern (and therefore interchangeable) with 308 16” wheels? I know of a set from a 328 that may be available. Thanks in advance for any replies.
ThreeSixtyM - I have a very rare set of original 16’ 308 QV wheels in storage or are you after 328 wheels specifically. .?
Generally, yes, but there is an issue with the 328 wheels not having the projected center hub area to clear the grease cap on the 308 front hubs. I know there are prior threads about this where people have made lower profile grease caps.
They don't LOOK the same......so is your question "fitment" as in "use a grinder and get them on"? There were THREE diferent supplier brands of 308 wheels, and I can tell them apart instantly. They each had to fabricate molds. With the 328, the styling changed yet again, to be far more angular and geometric. So as 308s rise in survivor rarlty and value, the "correct" wheels IMO become far more important. I have 14"s and 16"s for my 308, and they are now so valuable I run aftermarket 16" rims and tires. All of the wheels have a date code on the back and while I am not THAT picky to want all of those hidden stamps to match the year of the car, you certanly want the FRONT visible side to appear correct, for the vintage. As posted there's a huge long thread about 308/328 wheels. You'll have to slog thru the whole thing or simply say, the year of the car you are trying to equip. It's not rocket science but the knowledge is tedious.
Post them up, are all the Date Stamps in the casting matching? What value would you put on your set??? I have a set too, but the left side is "early 16"s", an option since 1977.. The right side is much "Later 16"s" which probably DID equip a QV, circa '83 The match from the front certainly, they are all "308 16" wheels"!!!
It took my five years to put a set together as I was planning on buying another 308 but have just bought a 328 GTB project so may let them go. Problem is to find another set - very very difficult. My set has the raised lettering so specific to a QV onwards (not that it would have worried me fitting them to a carb car!). I wouldn’t get too hung up about dates as you’ll never know once fitted.
