We have a Suzuki SX4 Crossover that uses blue. Just wondering if there is an advantage to using it in a Ferrari.
That's what I've been using for 10 years with good results. Yes, the BMW has the dark gray/bluefish color.
I went through the same training program. Put me down for one. Do you have a air release and coolant catch system for the thermostat housing yet?
Hahaha! YES I almost do! See photos below! All I have to do is get the adapters plated, and these are ready to go. One for Thermostat Housing and one for Radiator. These little Auto Vents allow gas out, but not coolant! SOOOOO much nicer than bleeding manually! I will start a separate thread once I have everything ready. Robert, do you know if the drain you made up of the block would fit the one in the bottom of the radiator?
I've seen these threads in the archives and just didn't have the motivation to gather the pieces myself. So I signed up with Rob for all the kits and a big thanks to him for making these available. BTW: from an archive post, I bought a hose cutter similar to this. it makes accurate & clean cuts everytime. Far better than a Utility knife or box cutter. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Charles, You are in Grand Rapids, only 30 minutes from me; we should get together some time! The petcock has tapered (plumbing) threads. They are 1/8" NPT. I presume everything Ferrari will be metric. Cheers Robert
Robert, I would like to try the autobleeder as well, thinking of putting one for the rad and one for the thermostat housing.
Thanks Robert, Got my radiator air bleed valves today, Fast shipping. Screwed right in seconds. Can't drive the Ferrari today as it is raining in Dallas. Will report back in a week or too.
Yes, I just got a bunch of Bleeder Valves in yesterday! I need to make a new post to tell everyone about them when I have a few spare minutes this weekend. And many thanks to Crowndog who told me about them! They are so cool. I tried blowing through one and my breath came out all the little perimeter holes. Then I blew a little water in it, and it shut instantly! I think these will be a wonderful solution to the nagging issue of small amounts of trapped air in our 308's cooling systems!
Just wanted to let people know these parts are very good quality and really easy to fit. I installed them on my 89 328 GTS today everything went perfectly and worked as described..... not needing to manually bleed the system is great. I look forward to the next coolant change now without all the mess. Thank you Robert for coming up with these valve/bleeder kits I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the kind words, Jim! I know these are going to be Very popular with our group! Cheers, Robert
I'm about to start a flush on my Euro '88 Mondial but now may hold off a week to get the parts and do the above. Thanks for the info, i'll take pics if/when do it.
You will be glad you waited. Once you get these installed you will never hate to change your coolant again! Please report back your experience! Cheers, Robert
obertoRo, I got excited seeing the 1st page and not fully reading that you had kits. I'll just opt for one of those if thats ok. I'll send you a PM. If can do a Bleeder Valve that would be awesome, if to soon add me to the list! Thanks, Paully
I'm curious as to whether it's possible to operate the peacock on the engine block with a pole of some kind without having to remove the tire and fender well ? Can you get to it ? Thanks, Skipp
One might be able to access the Engine Petcock from underneath, but I wouldn't bet on it. Definitely no access from above. And it most likely needs your fingers since it turns to open. It's not on/off like a light switch. Attaching the drain tube as well, would most likely require fingers.
